diving on nitrox

Any of you guys dive on mix .Looking at doing a short nitrox course. Some great bottom times in the 18-22m near double.

I did it years ago

Havent used it since as the cost of having oxygen clean cylinders and regs which you have to have as they wont fill normal cylinders)and the cost of fills compared to the diving opportunitys down this way (rockingham)  over 30 mtrs isn't worth it to me

Use it all the time now, its

Use it all the time now, its $6 a fill on a fill card from dolphin scuba in welshpool.

Because they put in the membrane system, you only need to have a membrane use only sticker, and a nitrox warning sticker on your tank. No more keeping your tank oxygen washed.

Hit me up for some nitrox stickers, I have some slightly amusing ones lying around somewhere probably and they costa bit less than the store-bought ones.

If you doing the course Paul

If you doing the course Paul look at the TDI rather than the Padi, goes into a lot more detail.

Im not sure about

Im not sure about the TDI one, but I do agree that the PADI one is very light on for detail.

There wasnt a single calculation in the course. They just say 'these days everyone dives with a computer, so we will assume you all do and no need to teach you how to use tables etc to figure out bottom time using different gasses'.

By the way this wasnt the place that I did the course with being slack, even the PADI book says this.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Ahh PADI = Put Another Dollar

Ahh PADI = Put Another Dollar In!

The TDI/SDI course is good, little harder to find around the traps though. I did mine with Luke from Image Dive. Dolphin Scuba can do it, they're in Welshpool. Personally avoid Perth Scuba, thats the guy Lee that has been trying to get the coast closed off perth, so its his own private dive playground.

I dive on nitrox now.

I dive on nitrox now. Depending on the depths you may not get a lot more bottom time as in 20-25m your air will usually run out before your NDL. However, it can be useful for double dives in the 20s or more when your second dive may push NDL (or if you do three). Had it once where a buddy got stuck with a mandatory deco stop when I was fine :p.

Gives you a bit more leeway in reducing your nitrogen load in general (bit more safety margin in that regard). I did PADI (as I was trying to do it on quick notice so couldnt organise one of the others) but seeing as it was only $99, I didnt put that many dollars in :p.

Will be interesting if NOR gets membrane nitrox. Its just too expensive stik. Worse if not continuous blending (as you need oxygen clean).

yep - that was me!

In saying that, my computer was set to sook mode. now that's been changed, I'm down there a bit longer.

It's a cost thing for me too. Air is cheap and for 10 minutes less, i'll keep doing it. If Hillarys did nitrox at the same/reasonable price on the spot, I'd change more for the  fact that it's meant to be better for your head.

I still do two dives at that 18-25 meters adn stay down for nearly an hour on each but I breath slow and always outlast my buddies. That's more the issue unless youre both on nitrox.
