But I would be looking at getting a radio or epirb regardless of how far you go out, you just never know out there and its always better to be prepared.  Especially if a phone gets wet, or flares etc.  Sure you know all that, just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks Adam, l'm aware that a radio and an epirb is really useful if not essential. However it all boils down to economics. :)

Just the other day my trailer tyre and axle blew up and had to get another trailer for $400 & had to renew rego etc so its alot of unintended costs involved + l'm not working.

That said i have 2 engines + a set of oars so its unlikely my boat will be left with no power, only thing can happen is if the boat springs a leak or gets swamped / capsizes. If that happens i rekon the radio would be pretty useless anyways. EPIRB would be, on the other hand, extremely useful.

How far out do you go, and

How far out do you go, and how long have you been fish from Two Rocks. Looking for a person with local knowledge, and not having a few essentials ,is not the best advertisement for a deckie, I live in Yanchep and fish most weekends if you see my boat come a say good day and I can give you some areas to try depending on what your fishing for.

l'm fully aware of the risks involved. Also i am aware Two Rocks gets really rough. However i wonder what people did pre-epirb. I mean this is quite a new invention but it didn't stop people from going out before did it?

I don't see the co-relationship between an EPIRB and risking my life or it saving my life.

Like i clearly stipulated i do not go far out. Typically less than 1.5 nautical miles out. Also i am pretty mindful of the weather and will ensure that i am usually no more than 10mins drive to the marina and safety should the wind suddenly pick up.

Of course i could easily get swamped by a king wave as suggested but i don't really have the finances to pay for the EPIRB.

Now to address the final point of risking someone else's life, I have clearly stipulated what i have and don't have so i don't think this is a very relevant point as they have been fully informed.

Either way i was hoping for a deckie, not a lecture so please, no more lectures.

Cheers!
