Submitted by kane on Fri, 2009-01-09 04:02
Hi all,
We are planning a 2 week camping / fishing trip to Coral Bay this year, never been there before, can someone tell me whats the best time of year for boating etc to head up there.
No kids so dont have to go in school holidays or anything.
Cheers,
Kane

Ap/May/June
April/May/June - definately try and go outside of school holidays. If you want to get into a chalet you'd want to start looking to book soon as theres not a hell of a lot available there. If your going to tent it then you should be right for a while, but definately book your spot as the place fills up extremely quickly once the tourists start moving in.

Same as above
Same as above but make sure you do it before the end of August because thats when the first of the southerlies start to crank up and don't stop untill the end of Feb except for the odd day or 2.We've only had 10 good fishing days here in Carnavon since then and we both get the same weather patterns

Otherwise
You can camp out of Coral Bay down near Warroora station on 14 mile or any of their designated camping spots. Magic place and away from the mass crowds on sandy beaches.

what size
What size boat Kane? Most of the oldies just use small tinnies from 3m to 4.5, but there are a few 5m and just over that launch there, mind you, its not the easiest. You need to take the trailer off the hitch, tie a rope to car and trailer and then snatch it out. Its quite a steep bank.
Here's a photo so you can see what I'm talking about. The oldies set up along this beach for months at a time. If you get a campsite, first thing you do is go and say g'day to them. If you ever get in any trouble or need any help, lets just say you will have more people than you know what to do with trying to assist. Just give Warroora station a buzz and say I'd like a few nights camping at 14 mile, they will send you some mud maps on how to get there (pretty easy) and anything else you need to know. The lagoon out the front is magic for spanglies, trevs and squidding and on the right day you can get out the back from a relatively safe channel entrance. All you need to worry about is a sanctuary zone about 1.5km to the south of the camping area.
Cheers,
Adam

Yeah that looks magic,
Yeah that looks magic, thanks alot for the photo and for the info, Ive got a 4.8 metre centre console - similar idea to a stabicraft, positive bouyancy boat but a home made job with a 90 yamaha on the back, ill be pulling it with my 3.0 ltr diesel hilux.
Looks like no problems, but like you say i will definately say gday to the locals just in case.
Shit that photo looks good! cant wait to be there!
Thanks again fellas
