Circle hooks -- when NOT to use them

Hi everyone,
Newbie here. Be nice.
Are there any fishing techniques, scenarios, or target species where a regular J-hook is preferred over a circle hook?
What about lures? Would replacing trebles and doubles with single circle hooks work?
Looking forward to your thoughts!

Not on lures.
I use them when towing baits for bills and whenever I'm livebaiting.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Generally speaking circle
Generally speaking circle hooks the fish hooks itself, especially in the corner of the mouth. Striking is more effective with j hooks because of the angle the point is facing and the straight shank.
i usually use j hooks for all my rigs because they are more effective for striking and I like to strike on bites. The circle hooks I mainly only prefer for snell rigs when presenting squid

Thanks fellas.
Would it be fair to generalise then and say that circle hooks are best used when there is slack in the line that gives a fish space and time to turn, for example when drifting baits or on drop retrieves when you expect the target species to take a soft plastic or bait on the drop?
Does anyone use circles on lures or when trolling?
