Centre Consoles?
Submitted by SPESS on Mon, 2007-09-03 14:46
Hi guys im im the process of looking for a boat to satisfiy my needs. Looking for a centre console in the 4.5 to 5m range with good deck space. Will be fitting a 4 stroke 40 to 50hp on the back so a hull is all im chasing. Ive looked at heaps of different brands including quintrex, stessi and mako but yet to find one i like at the moment. My mate is a boat builder and im tossing up weather to get him to build one for me or try and find one. doesnt have to be new or old in fact i dont really mind as i plan on customizing it to my needs anyway. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as theres plenty of northern destinations coming up for me in the next 12 months and need it for then. Cheers.

Chasing just a hull will be
Chasing just a hull will be the hard part mate - but you could always buy the package and then sell the outboard on its own.
What kind of factors are you looking for mate?

Cheers guys like i said im
Cheers guys like i said im fully customising the rig to suit my needs but it doesnt matter if theres an outboard already on it! Ill will put a kill and fuel tank (below) in it myself and make the t-top as well. Just need to know a good hull that can get me back in a bit of chop and as a avid lure user i want no bullshit hanging around the place. Rod holders, baitboards etc can also be made between myself and my mate who does boat building. Theres heaps of good combos around at the moment with motor for around the $15000 mark its just chasing the right design is the biggest factor.

trailcraft
trailcraft make a nice centre console around 5 meters i think it is called a Profish. Not a bad boat my mate has one he's never had a problem we've gone to west end on it and it was a pretty good ride except getting a bit wet. but thats half the fun it's good for chukking lures around and doing a bit of jigging

Centre consol user
I've got a GRP c/con and a 50 4stroke Yamaha.
With a clean bottom and 3up and all the goodies I can troll all day (7hrs) get out and back from the shelf for 22-23 litres.
Its does (did when new) 27knots on the way in and my troll speed is 2,100rpm (4.7-5.6knots).
The hull is mod vee and weighs 412kgs bare, I've put a 23mm stainless tee top on it and fitted 4 base plates into the deck to bolt it to.
I fitted a planetary gear steering so it keeps a straight course just like an hydraulic but cheaper and easier to maintain.
Things I'd change;
*I'd have the consol further forward and no mother-in-law seat on the front, no forward facing openings (side or rear only) and a wet compartment in the consol for drinks and life jackets.
*Two cable tubes and not one, then one can be dedicated to the transducer cable.
* Battery tray under the consol (made this myself) for house battery and central engine battery under transom (not off centre as at present).
*Full height transom right across the back and wider gunnels so the rod holders can be set out more.
*Stainless steel keel band.
*Permanent copper anti-fouling - cannot find it - but I will (I hate having a boat not 'ready' to fish).
