Carnarvon Mulloway over the Long Weekend

Went to Carnarvon over the weekend.
Left Perth Friday night and drove straight to the 1 Mile.
Two of us picked up a Mulloway each on our first cast of the trip.
We picked up 5 Mulloway for the trip and lost about 4 to the pylons and 1 because of a messed up gaff shot.
The Monday was spent at Quobba spinning but we didn't end up catching anything descent.
Hope you like the pics

Jetty

Wed, 2010-06-09 16:57

The jetty has been turning it on since being re opened even to the stage of having boats from the recent Carnarfin comp anchoring near it in the hope of a prize winning mulloway.

Good catch after the hard work getting up here.

Warning---the local coppers have been out on the jetty warning/pinching people who are fishing passed the barricade because of complaints from the jetty restoration committee.

Very surprised that Quobba didn't turn it on, the pro mackie fishermen have been getting heaps and some real hooters as well. The winning mackie from the Carnarfin went 36kg and the runner up 31kg were both caught not far out off the north wall, they released something like 20 fish chasing the biggest to weigh in.

Humpy

Thu, 2010-06-10 21:07

There is a barricade set up where the humpy is because as a result of the fire they were unable to do any maintenance and it is in need of major repair.

I know of the fire that was behind the toilets. There was a barracade behind that. I thought the latest fire was nearer the shore and 80m or something was pulled down so you could not even get to lower landing half way down the jetty. that was about 2 years ago.

Landing

Fri, 2010-06-11 19:15

The whole 80metre section by the landing is new. Some one set it alight in the middle of the night in a howling southerly. Because of the low tide sea rescue were not able to get close to use a fire pump so they cut a bay out on each side of the fire to stop it spreading further out and in towards the shore leaving an eighty metre gap.

While they were getting the funds together the outer end had fallen in to disrepair hence the barricade stopping people from going on to the worst section.

Mulloway

Fri, 2010-06-11 21:45

Most of the locals don't even bother to keep mulloway, just unhook them and let them swim away, don't know why all the visitors look at us all funny when you tell them that. Rubbish fish compared to all the others available.
