purchased my boat from melbourne a few years back, didnt have a pre-inspection done but found sea freight worked out well for delivery to WA. A couple of road transport options came in marginally cheaper but you take on a fair bit more risk of damage and stuff being stolen going by road. I considering also that cheapest quotes were not from reputable transport companys.

I purchased a 26' Proline from Victoria mid last year and totaly agree with telferfish about using sea freight rather than road. I used Sunco Logistics who included pick up of the boat from the dealership, delivery to port, RORO sea transport, pick up from Fremantle warf and delivery to the boat club.    

 I was fortunate having rellies in Melbourne. I paid my uncle (ex truckie) all fuel, accomodations and meals for him and my aunty to deliver the boat to WA. They spent three weeks here on holidays and then i paid him the same for the return journey. I cant really remember what it cost other than being comparable or cheaper than a frieght company. Plus I was safe in the knowledge that he was going to look after it on the journey.

 I bought my aluminium 6.6m from The goldcoast. Used the transport cost as a bit of a negotiating point to lower the cost to get the sale. I got a pre purchase done well worth it. I then removed all valuables including the stainless prop and posted it home. Had the boat partially wrapped.  Found a truck company that would do it as a return trip. Negotiated a very reasonable price. I picked the boat up from a yard in kewdale. All good . I work in and around ship transport wouldn't say there's less chances of stuff going missing,  between the crew, labour hire , and so on. It was a good deal for me all up got a good boat for less than I would have to pay for it IN WA.
