Broome Sept Oct 2012

Travelling up to Broome later during school holidays....looking at Port Smith for a few days before hitting Broome. Any suggestions for fishing...taking 4.5m c/c good for creeks and open....Is there any place better than Port Smith on way up?

Suggestions, ideas welcome

Willie Creek, Barred

Willie Creek, Barred Creek are worth a shot though I haven't been there.

Fish around the main jetty area as it is THE FAD around the area.

If it is blowing easterly then you are pretty much screwed as far as fishing is concerned.

tides

check the tides, if it's spring tides then fishing will be tough, neaps are better.

you dont have to venture far and plenty of creeks around town, you can launch from Barred by going north along the coastal tracks once you cross the saltpans heading towards Willie Creek or for launch from Willie creek but as above you need the tides.

there is plenty of good fishing in Roebuck Bay but again watch the tides.

be very careful launch/retrieving from the beach, the sand gets very soft at the waterline so be quick or use the concrete ramps but again they run out on low tide.

Diaster rocks has good trolling or head up the coast chasing the Billies out from Barred Creek.

The wind has been blowing hard since early April and as above any easterly will make then very messy

Hey mate,There is some nice

Hey mate,

There is some nice reef just off Gantheume point, plenty of good fish to be had there. I reckong only 400m from the shore.

You can also work your way along the shipping channel on the tide changes chasing the tuna schools pushing up the bait of the channel walls, if you look, you'll find them without fail. AWESOME FUN!

Barred and willie are good for a troll, it can be alitte tough for non locals though. Just look for birds working and hopefully  you'll turn up some fish.

As far as landbased is concerned the jetty is absolutely number one, so much fun to be had. Work the end of the jetty at first light and tide changes woth soft placcies for quennies and trevs. Drop some fresh prawns on a snapper snatcher at any time for anything from trevally, bluebone, trout, etc. Its a little dependant on the tides but persistence always pays off.

Have fun mate, what id give to get back there!

If you need any more info just ask, dont know much but Broome is definitely one place where you need all the info you can get

broome fishing

launch from the main beach below the fishing club HQ ..head across the bay start looking for some mangroves etc near the eco beach lodge ...always had luck with GT's there, busting up bait in the flats/shallows

another possibiltie is Cape Leveque...200ish ks from brrome down the same track as willie's creek just keep going ..watch the track can get soft at spots and at times resembles a set of whoops you would find on a bmx trackshouldnt be too bad with the graders cleaning it up ,...great channels and gutters marvelous macky grounds (see my profile pic got that ballooning)

as pattyT mentioned the shipping channel is great for tuna...there is also some out lying lumps and reefs that are good for maky's..if the water is warm enough of course

but watch out coming and going from the launch spots can get very reefy ..

tides can be tricky but with enough planning shouldnt be any dramas

i always prefered the rocks under the jetty myself ..poppers and shallow bibbed lures ..drives the quennies mental

love broome miss it terribly..ps if it is still busy around town with tourists etc ..THURSDAY NIGHT oasis bar @ the roey hotel...;)..damn good night
