im using 50lb braid and i need advice as to what size mono to use as a shock leader because when i cast with just the braid with 112 gram sinkers the line snaps almost everytime. and i would also like to know what knots to use for the basic paternoster just to make sure im doing it right. i need any info asap seeing as im heading down to preston beach on friday! any help is useful! cheers

yepp not gonna make excuses
yepp not gonna make excuses it is cheap braid. on my budget it was fine. i have a big 9000 surf reel so it takes a fair amount of line (eg 0.5mm 400metres upto 0.7mm 300 metres) meaning i needed a lot of line for cheap. so i decided to get that. classic uni student big dreams small budget ;)

Off the top of my head I
Off the top of my head I don't know the type of braid I bought to put on my fin nor 9500 for shark fishing. But I think my problem was trying to cast way to big of live bait. Having a big leader to braid when I cast it the braid came off to quick and looped around the first eyelet. Snapping it :( only time it happend. Put a lot of time into that rig to, so I decided to go swimming for it on dawn :-/ had a good burley slik going to that was a good rush

I had the same problem
I had the same problem casting big baits/ sinkers / lures where the braid would pop and I would lose my rig.
Used good quality braid too and good rods, now I have found that I like the long leaders on the spool when i cast chasing long distance.

I would go with Callum, check
I would go with Callum, check the guides ...really closely as I had a daiwa heartland rod that if I went full welly it would snap off , every time. half power it was fine. really messed with me till I got to Exmouth with it and lost three lures in three casts. I pulled up and did a very close inspection of the inserts and found a hairline crack ! problem solved ..........or could be cheap braid ? give Oceanside a go .. $45 for a topshot of braid and they will spool it for you -_-
