Drift-Sea Anchor
Hey Mitch,
We have 2 drift anchors that we use. It really depends on the variables, how many you are fishing, wind direction and current strength.
For 2 people we usually deploy on the captains bow, halfway down the boat as slows you a bit more and gives plenty of room on the side. If we fish 3 or more, we go with one off the back corner depending on which way the drift is moving. Normally we have rope lengths approx 1.5-2 lengths of the vessel, which can be extended to slow the drift down.
Best we have found is having 2 drifties out the back from each corner when you are really moving. One generally stays deep and the other on the surface and they tend to give you a nice slow drift when either the wind is howling or current moving too fast.
We have found off the back corner with about 2 lengths of the vessel slows you down nicely in most situations.
Hope this helps a little.. What sort of sea anchor did you get? Theres a few different ones out there, some are really cheap and nasty, where the stitching breaks, and some are pretty good quality.

Drifties
What colour are they? We have had severel.. the yellow flimsy ones with the white poly tubes holding them open aren't very good in my opinion..
Had the orange ones for a while.. they aren't too bad.. stictching seems to break every now and then, but is pretty easily fixed, just a bit of a nuisance. They are now off the market apparently.
Got a blue one that has inter-twined stitching for the rope, really good stuff, cost me $80, but a lot better than the others I've seen.
Then there are the ones that come with new boats that have a rope to the back so you can empty the water out before retrieving. They are pretty damn good, but would say they are pretty expensive.
Yeh, interested in getting his details, always good to have those sort of contacts, especially if it is quality.
