Abrolhos trip
Headed over last wednesday for a few days, taking a couple of my kids.
We didnt do alot of fishing this time though we chucked the pots in and bagged out pretty well straight away, and did a bit of trolling for trout close to the island.
Got dhuies, painted sweetlip (I like my neighbours so let them go :-) sweetlip, trout (not quite size) and shark mackeral.
Trip was mainly to do a bit of exploring and catch up with my old boss over there. Plus the kids just have a blast!
mmm-who should I give this to???
this "adventuring business" is hard yakka!
kid sized trout
Trip home was a bit messy, we were going to stay til saturday but as we had to be home midmorning and a strong easterly was forecast, at the last minute on friday arvo we decided to take off.
We got a third of the way back, 12 knt SE so stopped for a fish. By the time we got going again, it was "hello 25kt S/SE"!
Kids handled it fine as always though and we rolled into Hells Gates at 5pm.

Great Photos
Rob, nothing beats seeing kids smile like that.
How good are the crays there at the moment.
We bagged out on our two drops.

for sure!
done a few trips over there with the kids now.
After we had our 12 we put a chunk of shark mackeral in a pot and dropped it off the jetty in 1/2 meter of water, with half the neck dry.
The kids kept shining the spotty in there "we wont get any crays here Dad". In the morning theyre straight out of the swag and lo and behold-feelers poking out from one big male!

Bloody great work on those
Bloody great work on those crays - making me hungry!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

lures
we dragged the classic red head and a selection of other poppers, deep dive redheads and shiny stuff but the beaten up redhead was the ONLY one to get hit time and again.
Right at the end something smashed it, unstoppable, maybe a slimy and it snapped at the knot.
Depressing to lose it!

Your parked up in "The Hole"
Unless I am very much mistaken - I realy enjoyed snorkling there until one evening when a 12 foot tiger meandered up to the rear of the boat - but the tailor at night were something else - are they still haunting the area

yep thats the "bity holes"!
We didnt camp there, Im lucky enough to have a jetty to tie up to, but its pretty hard to get permission nowadays. Ive been told stories of camp breakins, often for no apparent reason or maybe alcohol.
Very disappointing as to me its hard to imagine who would make the effort to go all the way out there and get up to that sort of mischief?
We spearfished thru the channel there in January, but Ive never seen a tailor at the islands? The baby trout were like schools of tailor though, dozens in the channel.

note
all pics that have me in are taken by an 8 yr old mostly with Iphone.
In fact nearly all the pics were taken by the kids.
