Abrolhos Island Sink Hole Video
Submitted by Pete D on Thu, 2012-11-08 19:51
This was the first dive of our June 2012 trip, (see other video http://fishwrecked.com/forum/schooling-dhuies-abrolhos-video ).
The massive protected sandy bay of only 1.5m deep is pretty boring. But, hidden under a magical rainbow (haha, great timing) lies a 46m deep sink hole of only a few metres in diameter. A few cray pots have been dropped into the sink hole; obviously, the owners not realising the depth. The floats are at about 20 metres. A lone cray at about 30m is featured. The sink hole has a few overhangs at 5m which was perfect for our safety stop.
Enjoy.

Shheart! Thats cool, how deep was it, hows all those crays bunched up
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

That hole went down to 44m or so, my dive com said 44 and ! was very close to the bottom.
Crays that were bunched up were in a ledge about 5-6m down IIRC.

Love the clarity of the water that deep. Good to see when pointing the camera up you can see how quick daylight fades. I woulda gone 10m down there and shit myself for monsters lol.

Yeah, they are only a few
Yeah, they are only a few metres deep Marc and usually hold a few Baldies. This sink hole only had a 3 m opening and max 8m width down about 20m. Wouldn't even spot it from a plane!
