imo.you wouldnt get much for your money if its under 2k for a 30 hp ... how long do you expect it to last ?. your better off saving the extra $ and get something that has been proven over time

mate we are in the market

Mon, 2010-10-11 20:06

mate

we are in the market for a new donk for our tinny and have been looking at them as well.

i have had bikes with these motors and have gone well, the bike has broke before the engine every time.

1 engine has even been submerged in a dam overnight and still fired up the next day.

they will never be as good as a yammy/honda and so on but value for money has to be looked at?

any help if you got 2 engines at the same time?

we could go a 30hp long shaft/tiller arm, even elect start if req.

pm me with your price/delievered as i have a freind that imports on a reg basis and gets some good deals, he has already imoprted some bikes from this company before.

cheers ron

im pretty new to the whole boatign game

Mon, 2010-10-11 20:10

its to throw on a 3m f/glass savage scamp which is some kind of 79's runabout - mainly used in river for trolling and i guess when i get an outboard trips in the sound, five fathom etc... not hecktik use. 3 times a month..  im more the kind to buy second hand but after being jipped twice buying 2hand off gumtree im more inclined to buy new.. im thinking in terms of chinese cars and existing machinery exports..

its not all bad... hyundais are everywhere and they keep on going- kia's etc etc...  ive read up a bit on a chinese outboard named parsun people sayiong good things... ;L

but im asking for your opinions - anyone else? any horror storys with chinese outboard? any good storys? :D

Service

Mon, 2010-10-11 21:38

Once you have bought it who is going to be able to service it, if they haven't even heard of them and where do you get new impellors, housings, etc?

As said before, I'd be verrryyy wary about buying something like that.

Hyundai and Kia are from Korea not China and that is a huge difference in quality.

Garbage

I saw these motors at a boatshow. I looked under the cover and it has the same parts as a mid to early 70's model evinrude. The pull start is a old worm drive mechanism that was done away with 30+ years ago because they used to bind up.

It'll match your 79 model boat perfectly though.

I would wait

Wed, 2010-10-27 11:29

When anything is new and cheap, wait. Then at least you are not the discoveror of the lemon. Let others do that.

I well remember the original Subaru's and Hyandai's (even Honda). When they first arrived on the scene I was mega sceptical about them. But they have gone on to prove themselves, and I certainly would not hesitate to buy anyone of them now as cars, and never hesitate about the Honda outboard.

But there is also lemon stories like the Lada etc that have proven that it is best to wait.

go look first at the Suzuki

Wed, 2010-10-27 13:16

go look first at the Suzuki 2 stroke models they bring back to compete against the Chinese imports. F&B mag did a write up on the 2stroke Suzuki 40hp last year or ealry this year, and it's as rough as an old 80's stroker should be, but very reliable and great value. AND still serviced by Suzuki here with no issues.

here is the link to the review:

also very good write up in

Thu, 2010-10-28 07:43

also very good write up in this months F&B ( just got my e-copy last night) on their long term test of Parsun outboards as well. If F&B says they ok, the I would buy them, as Webster has a good rap in the industry for being very brutal and honest!
