Check what the max hp for
Check what the max hp for your transom is. You cant just hang what you like off the back. Mine haines sig 650 is 225hp
A quick google and I didnt find out for sure but most have 250's on them. One thing I did see was that they are 2.6 wide so you will need a permit to tow it arround.

Was talking to a guy who
Was talking to a guy who builds boats the other day, he is building a 7.2m center cab at the moment. The guy he is building it for got hold of a second hand motor (135 honda V-tec),a while after he had it he got a call from the original owner asking if he could buy his motor back. After he sold the honda he repowerd with a e-tec and he hates it, it loves the oil and it costs a fortune. I could not imagine how much oil a 300hp e-tec would use, Wazo you might be able to fill us in after a few runs.

How many litres of fuel did
How many litres of fuel did you use Holth? I think the first etecs you could run at 100/1, I think the new ones are set at 50/1 and you can't change it as they had a few issues with the big HP models not getting enough oil??
The ETECS use oil but when you save around $4000-$5000 difference on the price of say a new 200hp 4 stroke that's alot of oil.

But dont forget Vagabond
But dont forget Vagabond that you get alot more life out of a four stroke. If the fuel ratio is 50:1 then 50 liters of fuel is going to cost you about 100 dollars(working on 1 liter of oil costing 20 dollars). It wouldn't take long to get your money back and not having to repower in half the time. Just a thought each to there own I spose.

You have to use TCW3 oil
You have to use TCW3 oil wich is about $5 a litre you don't have to use ETEC oil, Don't want to turn this into another Etec VS 4 stroke but both have there good and bad points. Etec life half of a 4 stroke that's a new one?

more life out of a four
more life out of a four stroke.another uneducated comment.
theres guys running up 400 hours every 3 months on these motors with 2000 to 3000 hours in total and still going strong.
jason lm running xd 100 which isnt cheap but after the double oiling in the first 10 hour run in period it uses bugger all after that.
all the new bigger HP models are running xd100.
as for fuel usuage it comes down to how hard you drive it.last weekend we used 90 + litres for about 80 nms but that was running at 30+ knots most of the day.
these are truely a great motors.

does the xd100 have the same
does the xd100 have the same rating as tcw3 or is it different? I was on the understanding you only have to use xd100 if your running at 100 to1 if your running at 50 to 1 tcw3 is ok?

jason, from my understanding
jason, from my understanding its cleaner and 100% synthetic
as l said the new models are programmed to run XD100. the older larger model hp motors can run on the xd100 even if programmed to run the xd 50. but if its programmed for xd100 you cant use the xd50.
l remember you saying you where looking at a HO model when you repower.l suggest you check out the link l put up. all the info you need to know is there.

Just so you know, its not un-educated, its opinionated and how do you know he's not right... That would be like making an uneducated statement because you don't know if its true or false, just your opinion?

The motors were used as demos for a dealer in Miami. The boat they came off has been fitted with 09's. He's also sent D-dec diagnostics from the motors so they check out ok. As for the oil and fuel, thats another story altogether, prob have to sell the boat to afford the petrol! The dinghy I'll have to buy will be the worlds fastest.

If I had the cash I would take the 300 off you right now for my ugly beast. Pity you can't get finance on a second hand motor... :(
