Whats the go with two transducers on the back of your boat???

Hi guys! Made the mistake of buying a gps/sounder combo...and im now thinking of putting another sounder in my boat. I was wondering how close i could put the two transducers together...and if the they do effect  each other. Thanks Wade

When you have a mark on your gps and you are trying to find your lump..ground ect..you can change to split screens, but the picture is small making it hard to find your spot, i find myself changing between the gps and sounder full screen mode all the time....pain in the a#se!

yeh!

The combo units are hard to focus on both things especially with small screens so that's why I recomend independant units!

If they are on the same frequency (same brand in particular) it will interfere anywhere on the boat. If that's the case then you'll need to turn off the transducer send/receive of the combo unit and use it as a plotter only!

Just use one.  You can unplug the tranny plug from the combo unit and it will then only functon as a GPS.

If you leave the transducer

If you leave the transducer unpluged it will leave a high voltage potential on the uncovered pins if you dont remove the sounder as an option on screen(dependant on model) Read up first before committing as water an electricity don't mix!

I got a Lawrance combo , and it's a pain in the arse to use as both a sounder and gps so I bought a BW Navman with a Cmap card , Now the combo is used as a coulour sounder and the navman is my plotter

I to have the Lowrance 525C DF, I dont have any problems with having the split screen. Just zoom the splits for easier viewing. Maybe it just you old boys that have problems seeing the screen haha.

Combo Unit

Sun, 2008-08-10 09:16

I have a combo Eagle Fish Elite 502 and I to find it troublsome to use both sounder and GPS on split screen and the sounder does'nt appear to pickup fish on the bottom in any depth like I have seen on other sounders so I am leaning towards getting a seperate sounder unit can anyone suggest a good sounder, one that shows fish in depths up to 40 - 50metres.

Cheers Kev

Kev, the Furuno FCV620 and the FCV585 (bigger screen) are great units that will show good ground definition and fish. Even in deeper waters than 100M plus with the 600w standard transom mount transducer!
