What can you get for $50,000

I am looking to buy a boat as the last one was shared with a mate who never used it so it had to go.

I want to get a boat I can reguarly dive and fish from, from Rocko to Rotto and the ocasional family trip as I have a two year old too. I have been looking at getting a Yalta Craft 2000 (formerly 555). They have a good reputation as far as ride in the chop, They are a budget boat but it seems great value for money and you can get a new one with a 115 yammie 4st for just over 50k. I need it to be reliable so I wanted a low hours 2-5 year old second hand boat or new as this is the main selling point to the wife!

Anyone got any sugestions as to what other boats I could be looking at..... 5.5-6.5 meter half cabin, 115-150 ish HP, good deck space for fishing and diving and a 150L fuel tank so I could reach the furthest FAD with out a worry.... and again a budget of upto 50k....

I was also hoping to get any feedback from any Yalta Craft owners on the site...

Your sugestions will be appriciated....- Cheers...

I have a 2302, under 50k

Sat, 2012-03-03 07:26

I have a 2302, under 50k would mean an older model and to have a 4st would be well a stroke of luck. That trophy is also just over 7m long and 3.5t, you're going to need a car that will tow it. Whilst on the negatives this boat lacks fishing deck space but is a great family boat so keeps the boss happy & it does ride lovely

I have noticed a few Trophys, I have a Navara with 3.5T towing so that would be ok, I will look into them a bit more......

I did see a 2052 1.7 deisel cummins powered one for sale in Preth.... how do you think that would go??? http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Boats-Jet-Skis-boats-jet-skis-other-Trophy-2052-Diesel-2006-150-hrs-exc-cond-keen-to-sell-W0QQAdIdZ358207323

Navara has 3.5? That's good

Sat, 2012-03-03 09:22

Navara has 3.5? That's good to know
My thoughts on the Cummins
Too small an engine so it's working damn hard but fuel economy is awesome for those extended trips
Stability of an IB is great but you're going to lose precious room & the hull rides smooth anyway
Top speed and hole shot is obviously lower than the OB but how often do you get to use it on our waters? Hard trade off considering the fuel economy isn't it?
What do you use the boat most for and what do you need to get the purchase past the minister of war & finances? The 2302 is great for kids and ladies with shitter, sink, coverage, shower etc. However I would like more fishing room but don't cop an ear bashing when her friends want to head out for a cruise

The diesel is really nice, just a little slow too. 320nm range, but won't break 25kn without being dropped from space.

Seafarer Victory

Sat, 2012-03-03 08:11

I have a Victory and absolutely love it. Heaps of deck space and rides well.  I noticed one for sale recently on Boatsonline. It has an older motor, but you would'nt be far over the 50k with a motor swap. You would then have a awesome boat for years down the track. You would not be dissapointed. These don't come around for sale very often, especially one that has been looked after. Seems to have most of the gear on there as well, and the extra pullout shade.

http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/trailer-boats/seafarer-6mtr-victory/109892

Before I got my Seafarer Victory, I also looked the the Yalta Craft and Freedom Boats (Boat City), they look good but like you said, budget, like thinner fibreglass, also if I'm not mistake the beam is only 2300mm.

This may not bother some people but the back seat is supported on boxes, so when you want to be put the seats down you have 2 big plastic boxes you have to put somewhere. It's ok if you are only going to do fishing, you leave the boxes at home but if you go for cruise and do a bit of everything you put the seats up and down all the time. The Victory seats are hinged.

Sat, 2012-03-03 08:27

Are you set on glass or is ally an option? I have an 09 560C Barcrusher equivelant to 610 in new models and love it. Great space and light so towable with a family car. More fishing orientated but still meets needs of the family. Could pick up a good secondhand one with your budget.

My last boat was a Ramco which is very similar.... I have a mate that just bought the 610.... sounds great but I kind of wanter a more enclosed cabin so the young one can goto sleep and so we can also sleep in it for a night away..... as for the Glass vs Ally.... I could go either way just depends on what comes up....

sure you want enclosed?

Sat, 2012-03-03 17:01

been there, done that with two young boys - 8 and 3 at the time. The trouble with enclosed is it's hard to get into with all the "kids stuff" and even just stuff like moving around when sitting still as it's a smaller door, if your kid falls asleep in you arms, you can't get them into the cabin easy, gets hotter faster etc

The Stabi has the ful open into the cabin and the kids live up there whenever we are in the boat. easy to see them and they can look out, moving gear is simple. Love it.

Jump into a few boats with your wife and kid and try it. You won't go doorway then

Carribean Reef Runner renown quality glass boats

Sat, 2012-03-03 10:17

Howdy

Slightly larger than you have indicated but well worth a look & in your budget with a little negotiation

http://wa.gumtree.com.au/c-Boats-Jet-Skis-boats-jet-skis-other-Carribean-Reef-Runner-W0QQAdIdZ359626527

or with a 4 stroke

http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/trailer-boats/carribean-reef-runner/88236

Great cabin space in these as well plus high sided & highly regarded - certainly suits WA conditions.

Hope thats useful in the search.

Fri, 2012-03-09 19:54

Gday mate ive recently bought a 2006 yalta 555 with a 115 yamy 2 stroke and recomend one foresure, love the way it handles into the chop at rest its a little unstable but dosnt bother me,enough deck space can fish two comfortably.I think 115hp 4 stroke would do the job nicely as i can get approx 36knts.The interior is very basic and im 6,2 and can lay on v berth.I reckon its a very practical size boat for fishing and family. If you have any questions pm me or if want to come have look at mine i live in rocko. cheers Nick
