What to buy?

Hi all. I'm about to purchase a boat and was wondering which is the best way to go in regards to chart plotters and fish finders. Is a 2 in 1 unit better or am I better off with 2 separate units. I'm looking at something up to $2000. Any recommended models or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Cheers Mako. Do you know which brands take that map system. I really don't know where to start looking as I have only owned a dinghy before with a cheap Navman fishfinder on it. Cheers

the boat is a Genisis 5.8M so nothing huge but wouldn't mind taking it up north a bit and getting out fairly wide. If the weather is good I would like to head out wide around Perth waters to with some more expierenced skippers

$1875
Saw the 585 for $1875 including 600w transducer at the Boat Show today and you then get $150 cash back making it pretty cheap.

Top Unit
Definitely worth the dollars Watto69. That's a pretty sharp price, but check if they have them in stock! I was facing a long waiting time at the end of last year so i got mine from the US.

OS
With the cash back BJ it really isnt worth looking OS atm. Less than $50 difference from buying locally and you get the full backup and warranty. This price included the tranny as well so it actually puts you in front.
Pretty sure theres stock of the 585 this year.

US
Wasn't suggesting he should buy it from the US Tim, just pointing out another option if there is no local stock available.
Still pee'd off from last year to tell you the truth - great price mate, sorry won't be available for 2-3 months! Furuno really dropped the ball then.

Bad
Was definately bad last year John with the lack of stock and 1 bunch in particular offering great prices even tho they couldnt deliver any units. There were units on back order for months.
Your right that theres other options too its just that theres some great deals locally atm.

Transom Mount
Wouldn't bother with the 1kw plastic adjustable transom mount one Watto (moves around to much), but I think Tim might have one of the fixed SS bracket mounts now available for them. I've heard they are very good.
I'm only running the 600W at the moment, but when i move back south to deeper water I'll definitely refit the 1kw one then.

I was going
I was going to get a dual unit setup like everyone else recommends but in the end I had a look at the raymarine a65 and found it just sweet, the button setup very logical some people recommended it above furono but I guess its what u grow up with :) however on a single setup 6.5"screen is the minimum . PS nvaman seems to have a bad rep raymarine, hummingbird both use navionics charts when u buy them make sure they give u the most recent ones sometimes they give you older stock.
