It sounds like it might be safe...

but you can never be sure. When I asked about sandblasting my boat last year they told me I had to remove the tank completely, 'cause there obviously might still be fumes.

Is your tank welded in? Mine's riveted so wasn't a drama to remove it (although didn't get it blasted...had to remove tank to completely drain the fuel due to motor/fuel requirement change).

You will find most will ask for it to be removed.
You might find someone to do it but they will tell you its at your risk(insurance????)
Ive had to remove mine several times but at least the boat was still in one piece to put it back in.lol!

Petrol Fumes

Sun, 2008-09-07 16:59

Petrol fumes are heavier than air and settle in the bottom of the boat, all it needs is a spark to set it off. Most welders require the tank out and the blow an inert gas ,usually nitrogen in to displace any fumes and oxygen so nothing is inflamable is left before starting to weld.
Have seen many photos of boats split open like a sardine can from where they've exploded
