Water pressure?

Sat, 2009-01-31 16:27

Has the water pressure from the hose changed in any way?

My 150 Yamaha won't suck water up from the muffs and out through the telltale on normal tap pressure. I have to place the leg in a crate, fill it with water and then connect the hose to the flushing attachment on the powerhead. With this dual input of water I can then flush the motor in the driveway.

Does it pump fine in the ocean when the leg is submerged?

Don't do that as you'll melt your impeller in the leg! Motor must be run with water input into the lower leg.

Grain

Sometimes a grain of crap can also lodge in the telltale tube. Poking a bit of flexible wire up there can dislodge it but the fact it dribbles out of the tellatle in your case when the flushing attachment is used probably rule this out.

My 140 soes the same sometimes. Just seems like the water pressure varies and makes all the difference.

I bought one of the muff sets that feeds water in from both sides and found I dont have the problem any more

Same same, I have experienced the same issue with my 150HP Yamaha with low water pressure. Had to fiddle with the muffs and push them on real tight to ensure I get most of the water up... etc when I got it working, the motor will run with the tell tail ad max pressure and then eventually get the temp alarm due to not enough water flow. Ok now.. moved house and have heaps of water pressure

When I first got my boat had the same happen.  Asked the mechanic to check and all he had to do was press the ears together real tight.  If they loosen up they look like they are on hard but the same thing always happen.  Now I squeeze them together each time before I put them on the engine.
