Update on Birthday for the boat (pic heavy)
I just got back from my holiday and the boat is looking much better. I am no good at wiring so I still need an auto electrician to come and wire the new stereo and speakers and rig up an auto bilge pump but otherwise the boat has been well and truly cleaned up. If anyone can recommend someone mobile around Fremantle that is good please let me know. I am hoping to get the wiring finished this week and it will be like having a new boat.
I ripped out the old carpet and then spent about 5 hours clearing up the deck with a multitool with a scraper attachment. I also ripped the doors off the console and sanded them back, then painted a layer of undercoat and then two coats of semigloss black paint. I also attached some decent latches to prevent the doors banging while underway. I put in a new stereo and AM/FM aerial on the top of the console.
The old carpet was used as a template and then the seadek was cut into pieces to fit. They ended up being pretty big sections which made for some interesting moments when sticking the new surface down. I had a mate come over and give me a hand with that bit. I aimed for a 1cm gap between sheets but had one problem spot where the deckplate needed to be accessible so that required a 2cm gap. All up I am happy with the end look. I guess with everything that you do yourself there are bits that annoy you where you have made a minor blemish that others wouldn't notice.
I have attached some photo's. I ended up pulling out an old stereo, speakers, MHZ radio and aerial, old latches, and then pretty much scraping back the top layer of the deck.
Thanks to Grantartctic for advice re cleaning up the deck.
Cheers
Phil

Well done rambo, it's sure looking good. What sort of material is the seadek...a rubber matting of some sort? Hope you find an auto sparky because boating is better when the stereo is cranking regards ____________________________________________________________________________

Cheers Greasemonkey and Rusty, it is a good feeling sprucing the boat up a bit. Rusty - Seadek is a bit like deck grip it comes in 5mm thick rubber sheets 2x1metre and has an sdhesive backing like a big sticker. You just have to make sure you don't get any air bubbles as you lay it. I like the look of it but time will tell about how it holds up and copes with a bit of blood on the decks. Yep - the boating will be better with stereo cranking and catching the footy through winter.

What make is the boat? Mine is an Alucraft and looks to be exactly the same hull shape. |

Hi Carnarvonite The boat was built by Legend Boatbuilders. I think they normally do commercial boats and are located in Henderson. I think they made a run of 10 small recreational boats all the same around 2000. The boat is a little bit tippy at rest but is a great riding hull and is made of thick solid aluminium and doesn't slap like many aii boats. Ten years later when the transom started cracking from the weight of the outboard I took it back to the Boatbuilders. Without question they welded and reinforced the transon and did it free of charge which was really impressive and not expected. Cheers Phil |
