I have a C-Tek. Cant say a bad thing about them. Brought both my batterys back from death and now they run better then they used to. Leave it plugged in when not using my boat and keeps them fully charged.
If you want something just to trickle and keep your batteries topped up use a solar panel, we have 3 different sizes depending on the size of your batteries., Otherwise let me know how many batteries you have and the cca and how many banks, then i can suggest a good fully automatic on board/home charger.
I looked into this when I got mine. On the Bream forums, the most common recommendations were for the C-teks and the projecta's. The C-teks are supposedly better but the projecta's are a fair bit cheaper but still good quality (and support multiple chemistries/fancy features for proper charging).
In Perth, theres a mob that sells them wholesale to the public. There may be one in Melb too. Might be worth ringing to get a base price idea. Forget the name but they're in Jandakot.
Some you can mount in the boat too. You can also get basic trickle ones which are cheaper but you have to remember to turn them off and they dont do fancy things (like remove sulphation, float, checking, etc, etc). Plug in and forget with a fancy charger is a much easier way to go.
Haha its not that bad here the fishing has been awesome with the snapper and soon the whitting will be on too. Id be after a power charger not a solar powered one. I had a look on the ctek site but dont know what model to get my starting battery is a century pro 600 and other is a performance plus marine calcuim
I got the projecta. Was a bit cheaper than the CTEKs for the same equivalent rating, but still got good feedback. Is the 10A version. You can get them for about $160. General idea is 1/10th of your batteries Ah at a minimum (roughly)
Is a 7 stage charger, so charges fast, but charges properly. Can leave it on and it keeps the battery at float. Also removes sulphation or whatever it is. Selectable for different chemistries.
Well there you go hey.... anyway c-tek are good and Xantrax are brilliant too, Minn-kota have got two beauty's as well. Someone over there would have em.
you have to go with the c-tek they are magic not a problem at all with them you can get them online for aroung $195.00. i use the c-tek multi xs 7000. worth every cent.
getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.
I run twin batteries and have the Projecta 1600mA.
Does the job no worries it is hard wired so i just plug in at the mains and attach the male to femlae connectors and walk away. They shut themselves off when fully charged so you will not damage the batteries. Maintains and keeps the batteries topped up.
Are the solar panels going to overcharge or damage a battery on a nice hot sunny day left to charge or are there some smarts with them to determin if charge required??

Projecta 4300
I've got a Projecta 4300, keeps the battery fully charged and switches itself on again if the voltage drops off.
Costs about a hundred bucks up here but well and truly worth it
