tinny's what setup works best

Hi everyone

Like alot of others on the site i am looking at buying a tinny soon about the 4 - 5 metre mark.  There are a few different setups around like

1 rear tiller control boat

2 front conrol runabout

3 centre console

4 side console

I have fished in a number of these styled boats with tiller control giving the most room in a small boat but it can be hard to see ahead at times, where as front conrols are easy if your by yourself and prob block some spray.  the side console looks like it might suit me better.

does anyone have any advice on this subject and any other info that might help my out when choosing.  i am looking at spending hopefully up to 10K and wont be buying for a few months yet.

Cheers Rig

Centre console but put it right down the back. That way you get the most comfortable ride and none of the pounding that you get with smaller boats. Also it leaves the whole front end of the boat clear space for fishing.
There has to be a trade off with any boat and sadly its that you are going to get wet so carry a splash jacket

couldnt agree more with carnarvonite ... the rear c/c is one of the best set ups i know for that size boat ... it also pays to have your fuel forward of the console so that it balances the boat ... kill tanks or under deck esky would work too ...

I have a side console

and its a bitch if you are by yourself - you generally stand in the middle to keep the boat level. If I could be arsed, I'd move it to a centre console to save myself the hassle.

ok cheers guys for the advice.

i havent seen any with a rear centre console around but it makes more sense than being in the middle. i was wondering about the weight balance with the side console and i guess you would be constantly leaning towards the centre of the boat.

anyway i will have to try and find a rear console in a yard somewhere and check it out

take a look at http://www.trailcraft.com.au/boats/boat.aspx?model=540profish this is a side/rear console... I have this boat and yeah you do have to stand in the centre abit - though its good when ya coming back from the bank in a SW as the boat is leans into the wind abit making the ride smoother:)

bit out of budget though gives you an idea of layout...

yeah looks like agreat boat wayne.  maybe i could pick up a second hander or adjust my budget.  it says its 6.1m long on trailer with motor which is a tad longer than my garage can prob fit.  are trailcraft the top end price and quality wise of dinghy's?

Quintrex

Quintrex are about the top of the line. There are a lot of dinghies around the 4.2 size and set up with a 30hp on the back make a good combination. Some have a forward raised deck/casting platform giving that little extra deck room.
You can buy the console separate and set it up where you like.I have seen a couple where they have been hinged forward so the battery can be stored underneath
