Swing away drawbar extension

Hi guys re-jigging our trailer drawbar and thought whilst we're at it may as well consider the idea of a swing away extension for beach launching

Would prefer swing away than telescopic set up

Have seen some photos here and there such as the mackay trailer website but curious if anyone has actually done it as I'd like some close ups of the hinge and also how it locks into the original drawbar once you swing it around??!

Appreciate any help and photos

Thanks

Turts

3rd wheel.....

 Hey mate,

I reckon you'd be better off with a swing down retrieval wheel.

They are available at martins trailer parts from around $160 from memory, and you can use the 3rd (or 5th if its a dual axle) tyre and rim as a spare if you blow a tyre or bearing.

Have made one

Tue, 2012-01-24 12:53

Yeah mate i have made one for a friend but didn't take any pic's sory . It took a lot of hours to get it right and i had to use 20mm pins to hinge and lock it in place.  Even tho i over sized the steel , pins and plate it still flexed quite a bit.

I also added a swing down spare wheel. The owner of the trailor has never used the extention bar , after using the drop down spare he said it was the easiest way to launch  when the situation arose .

As scotto said it will prob be your quickest and cheepest option. Try it out first, then decide if you want to go ahead with the swing away bar .

Lots of boat trailers down

Lots of boat trailers down here set up for beach launching...majority of them use swing down spare wheel. Easy just to push the whole lot into the drink to launch and pull the trailer out with a heavy rope or snatchy...same for retrieving.
