Sunday 8 Nov: abalone, squid, fisheries and a few familiar faces

Not necessarily in that order, but first off I noticed Paul G on the freeway on my way past in the scooter. Don't think that one was a fishing trip, looked like work!

Made it down to Woodman Pt and caught my brother and Sayano, launched and motored quickly over to Carnac, despite the blustery conditions. Slipped in and bagged 38 Abalone, Cam found a big occy but the ab size was pretty ordinary out there. Got out of out dive suits and tried for some squid, but it was very very slow and headed back in.

Must say I'm pretty underwhelmed by breeden jigs, the hooks pulled out of mine in only the second outing.

Retrieved the boat and got carded by fisheries, they just wanted to check our licenses and skippers ticket, that all checked out and while we were getting the boat ready to drive back home, I noticed a Fury towed by a Jeep and sure enough it was Bodie. Good to meet another FWer in the flesh!

Sorry no snaps, my brother has the haul as he had to come back via Freo, I just came straight back up the freeway =)

You can't get it past 130km/h, even with the wind behind you!

Nor should you try

In light of comments on another forum topic if you "knowingly" attempted to exceed the legal speed limit perhaps the bike should be confiscated.  Wink

Ahh no risk of that here.

Ahh no risk of that here. Paul only thought I was going fast because he was towing, I was just doing the speed limit and it seems really fast when you're in a scooter =)

Yep was good to meet another

Sun, 2009-11-08 19:41

Yep was good to meet another FW member, till.

Was a bit slow for us too. Did manage to get our Abs easily tho, and good size this time, with most around 90mm.

Tried for some crabs out from coogee but only managed to spot 1 undersize bluey, and about 4 or 5 females.

Managed 1 squid and about 8 herring.

Did try for some Tailor around some breaking reefs but no luck.

Did see a heap of fish while getting abs, we were on ledges probably 5-6m drops. Saw some schooling sambos of about 8-10kgs, Skippy, 2 big KG's herring, and did manage to spot a few crays on the bottom too.

Was pretty good cruising about, think we got out doing about 28knots no dramas, and back doing 30.

We had a ball, so many things to do other than chasing demersals!

Actually you just reminded me, the other thing we had happen a bunch of times was big snook banging the squid jigs. I tried a few divers, but I couldn;t get them to hit them.

Ahh its a Vespa Gran Turismo

Mon, 2009-11-09 20:22

Ahh its a Vespa Gran Turismo 200c, its worth any amount of shit I get for riding it.

I can carry my fishing gear and rods on it if I'm just meeting someone at the ramp or off to have a crack landbased.

It is immune to traffic jams.

I can drive it Joondalup to Perth and back 8 times on a tank, (under 10l).
