Side Console Advice

Hi FW Members my apologies for the long winded post,

I'm currently searching for a boat and I'm starting to go around in circles with choices.....

I'm interested in a few different side consoles and looking for past owners or passengers opinions/experience in side consoles.

The key things I'm looking for in the boat are

1) Must be easy to launch and retrieve by my self as ill be fishing a lot of weekdays by my self.

2) Suitable to fish the Warnbro and Cockburn Sound, and FFB (in suitable conditions).

3) Have high gunwales (at least over knee height)

4) Easy to tow up to Shark Bay (car can tow 3.5T so this isnt a major issue)

The 2 that I'm most interested in at the moment are the Horizon Stryker 438 with a 50hp Yamaha 4st and the Clark Rebel 449 with a 60hp Suzuki 4st.

Has anyone got one or been in one??

There are a few reviews on the Stryker but not to much about the Clark Rebel.

Opinions??

 I can't comment on those

I can't comment on those actual brands but I have a 455 polycraft that is side console with a 50hp 4 stroke and it's the best small boat I have ever owned.  There trailer design is different so single person launch and retrieve is super easy.  I can't remember the exact model but it has screen and glovebox for passenger and front casting deck.  It's going to be for sale next week if interested but I live in Karratha

I just bought something of this nature myself

Tue, 2016-04-12 17:52

Was in the market for a mid sized side console, something between 4.3-4.8m.

had a good look at plenty of options and can report the below results

there are next to no descent used examples that come on the market here in W.A (plenty on Qld)

quintrex renegades are finished the best with all of the nice little accessories as well, and have the best trailer, however they are the dearest in the market

Stacer do the outlaw which is also a nicely finished boat, again a great package and trailer, again top end of the pricing scale

i really like the polycrafts and would have bought one, but at nearly 35k for a new one decked with a descent sounder /Gps combo it is a lot of money for a water going weely bin

i ended up buying a horizon 465 easyfisher pro side console. Their finish is not quite as nice as the band new quintrex's however I found a 1.5 year old one with 60hp yammie for a reasonable used price and it ticks the boxes for everything I want to do (same as what you have made mention above).

If I was in the market for a new side console I would be buying a Quintrex 460 renegade SC with some of the factory extras and a 60hp Suzuki 4 stroke, but just keep in mind that will set you back about 35k by the time you fit a sounder ect.

hope this helps

Yeah tell me about it, Qld

Yeah tell me about it, Qld have a heap of decent boats at a lot better prices over there. Guessing because they are made over there so save on transport.

I looked at the Quintrex renegade but like you said it’s quite expensive (more than I’m willing to pay).

I’ve had a look at the easyfisher but only had the tiller steers. Unfortunately the Clark dealer doesn’t have any side consoles in the yard so I’m unable to look at them. The height from deck to gunwale of a Clarke Rebel is 630mm compared to 530mm of the Horizon Stryker.

How does yours handle the chop?? Wet ride??
