For safety sake I would'nt be putting anything less than a 15hp motor on. I suppose it depends on what you're doing with it.

Will move it fine. As long as you are not in a hurry. 4-6 knots is probably a realistic proposition.

Yeah im just using it to go about 1km max out on it for fishing, just go out anchor down and fish and go back to the boat ramp.

Most 14 footers will have the transon set up for long leg motors. Will be alot more short shaft small motors around so that might be something to watch.

You might get away with it in the river but there is no way I would take it out of a marina let alone 1 x k offshore.
Get a bigger engine and a skippers ticket while you are at it.

Then heed Carnarvonites

Then heed Carnarvonites advice and get yout skippers ticket sorted out. This will give you the knowledge and confidence you will not get on a forum.

Even 1 km out can blow up hairy, so you will need adequate power to get out of a " situation ".

IMO down size the boat or upsize the donk,

Good luck matey.

Agree with the 15hp minimum

And the Skippers ticket, and somebody experienced with you for the first few times. Pretty easy to come unstuck even 1km from shore, and it is a long way to swim......

Putting a 6hp motor on 14 feet of fibreglass is way under powered, and could become life threatening if you get your self into an awkward situation and have to push into a strong breeze or any sort of a sea.
