QUERY RE: QUINTREX 500 HORNET TROPHY
Submitted by scottbec on Mon, 2009-11-16 08:34
HI guys,
I am looking at boats at the moment and have found a good Quintrex 500 Hornet Trophy - does anyone have any thoughts or comments on these boats based on their experience or anything they have heard???
I am hooing to be doing some river fishing, but would also want to take it out in the deep stuff down here in Albany and also up in Exmouth when we do our annual pilgramage.
I was thinking that these are more suited for river / estaury type environs so wasnt sure if it would be suitable for the deep and how it would handle swell / waves / chop.
heres a link http://quintrex.com.au/BoatRange/BH50ETMB/500HornetTrophy.aspx
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Scott

thay are desinged predominately for estaury/bay/river
however they are capable inshore in the right conditions. you would probably want to define offshore use but once again depends on the conditions and your skills and sensability as a Skipper.
having said that they are decent boats and the hull provides a smooth ride and very good stability at rest.
fished a mates 435 both estaury/bay and inshore (off Walpole) and no problems.
also depends on how you want to fit it out as most cater for the bream/bass market but one can choose many options.
up north no problems but depends on the ocean. inshore chasing spangies it would be killer for example.
think about your prefered fishing style and if it suits then any boat is good. dont forget to humminbird side imaging sounder as it will open your mind.
good luck and take it for a spin first.
fill in your profile as it is way easier to answer your question(s)

ive had 4.35 hornet trophy
ive had 4.35 hornet trophy now for 3 years its an awesome boat for its size depending on the weather & your boating experience to where you take it out i take mine out the back of rottnest & take it a fair way offshore up at lancilen & everywhere inbetween they are unsinkable even if you flip it they will not sink they handle really well in swell & if the wind picks up have been caught out a few times just back off cruise in get a bit wet.
i mainly brought mine for fishing up north in creeks & bit of out deep but now owning it & seeing what they can do im realy happy buying it & take it most places if you would like to know more pm me or give us a call

thanks guys...
Thanks for the info guys. Going out the back of Rotto indicates that your are quite trusting of its sea worthiness.
Its one of a few different models of boat that I am looking at - turns out the one I was looking at has sold, good timing.
I will have to get cracking and get some info on the profile.
Cheers.

Hi Wombat...didn't you find that at 4.35m the boat was just a tad small for going out the back of Rotto??

not at all mate as stated
not at all mate as stated depends on your knowledge of the ocean your boat & safety gear i always carry excess fuel & emergence survival kit & have full safety gear i dont go that far out if the weathers goin to turn or if it looks sus but if it dose turn bad back off slow trip in same as most boats if you feel safer in a bigger boat go out in a big one each to there own
