plate ali recommendations

The old man has asked me what I would recommend as far as an ali boat goes. To be honest, all the boats I have been out in have been f/g so other than a few generic ones I was at a bit of a loss as to what I should recommend him! One thing though, I have advised him to get plate ali rather than pressed ali and he is happy to head down that path. I've tried to steer him towards a f/g, but he is pretty adamant he wants ali for some reason or another (wont tell me why?). I'll continue to push him f/g way, but in the meantime I need something to get him going on with his plate ali's.

Basics are between 5m and 6m long, must be brand new and have a cabin up front (no island cabs or c/c). Budget is reasonably flexible, but I reckon he'll max out @ $70k.

Goldstar for sure, got 1 and would recommend anyday. Sold by midway marine in rockingham. They have alot of variety and are reasonably priced.

ive had 2 westerbergs now and i love em .. but if i had more coin then i would look at a surtees or noble super vee .. i like the idea of a self flood ballast area in the ali's to allow the deeper vee .. i think it is also used as a kill tank beofe moving fish onto ice.

Love my stabi

Fri, 2010-01-01 17:40

589stabi is a really nice boat, as is the 609. I was looking at the 609 when I bought mine but ended up stretching to a 659 as i liked the extra room.Certainly heard good things about the noble as well, but for stability when fishing the stabi is a cracker. If he wants a ride and is in perth I am happy to take him out one day.

ali boat

stabi would probably be first choice, then barcrusher/surtees.....

noble is good hull but you dont see many but waterworld told me at the mandurah boat show they will be stocking them.

there is a myriad of local custom and it would depend on his fishing style and distance travelling to fish. southbound make cabins and good reports all round.

jackman tend to bump harder than welsh hulls but the new chivers have the ballast sytem.

also the fisher boats out of QLD have a unique ballast system as well and get good reviews.......

good luck

Barcrusher - came close to

Barcrusher - came close to purchasing one. Very good boat - pure fishing machine. Not many creature comforts though.

Noble - another good quality plate boat. Although, they have a hefty price tag.

Fisher - another good builder out of SE Qld. Again, pricey.

AMM - one of my favourite - another Qld boat builder though.

I'd highly recomment having a chat to 'Noah' from Epic Marine. Sam & I discussed some boat plans with him last year. I've seen a few of his customers boats & they are built extremely well.

I'd be happy to ramble on about a few more plate boat builders - but most I know are located in QLD which makes things difficult.

We've owned a plate boat before - but going to glass now instead.
