Old Boats
Submitted by Bodie on Thu, 2008-07-10 15:37
Does anyone happen to know if there are places that buy old boats?
We have a 17.6 Ft fibre which would be around 20 years old i spose.
The engine has had it and needs replacing, but the hull seems to be in perfect condition. The rest of the boat ie: canopy, interior seats etc have withered away over time, and would need restoration.
Just wondering if anyone knows of places that take these types of boats and does them up or something??

Some money Bodey?
Are you hoping to get some money for it Bodey? If not, you could always advertise it - I'm sure someone would take it off your hands as a project.

My old man is considering
My old man is considering doing it up, and asked if he did it up, would i have it.
Now personally i wouldnt really want it just because of the amount of work thats required to get it looking good. Needs a new engine, new Canopy, seats, interior apulstry and so on.
I would say probably 15-20k needs spending?? just at a guess.
Probably needs a 2nd hand 75-90hp engine on it, which would say would be around 5-8k?? in price
Needs new windows as well on the small cabin.
Im suggesting to him not to spend the money on doing it up, but rather buy another boat instead. Can get 6m Quintrex boats for like 40k and under that are only a couple years old!

Yeah Bodie
That's starting to sound like a LOT of money. Then you have consider the condition of everything. Doesn't sound like there's much that doesn't need replacing, other than the hull itself LOL.

the boat is a pacemaker trendsetter half cab hull 17.5' so should be a decent hull once its done,i found a good article online from a guy that converted the same hull,so that will help.

OK Davey
Sounds good! That article should certainly come in handy. When you post your pics, you might want to post a link to that online article for folks to have a look at too. They'll then be in a better position to comment.
Sounds like you'll be an expert on FG by the time your finished.

Looks good Davey!
Good article, didn't go too deeply into it, but plenty of advice there. Definately a CC will give you best deck space. I'm no expert, but I'd perhaps look at a different CC. Maybe have a browse around the boat yards for some ideas. Or guys in here might drop in a few.

Yeah I guess the guy was
Yeah I guess the guy was forced to put in those bench-seat like bulkheads as stiffners after taking off the roof.
I don't know much about glass but there would be other ways to so it, like some U-shaped support running down the side and across the floor, but perhaps under it so you had clear decks.
