Oils aint Oils

Gday
I have a Mariner Optimax outboard motor and have been using the recommended brand name oil in it.
The oil is quiet expensive as you may know.
I was wondering what other oils ( shell, caltex etc) of the same grade , you may be using in your Optimax engines.
Cheers

I have an Optimax, and I never stray from the good stuff. Always Quiksilver DFI oil for me. Your outboard is not worth cheaping out on!!

I agree Steve, use the oil
I agree Steve, use the oil the manufacturers recommend, just in case of warranty.

ive heard all oils have
ive heard all oils have different additives in them so using a bunch of different oils insted of sticking to one could be bad for the motor, but stick with quicksilver, good stuff. i get mine from hayway as thats the cheapest ive found!

I'm out of my warranty
I'm out of my warranty period now, but it's one less thing I have to worry about about when I'm 50km out. Premium fuel and good oil always!!

I don't think 2 stroke oil
I don't think 2 stroke oil mixes well with premium fuel? Although it is best for 4 strokes which you probably have,, but for those that don't refer to first phrase

Quicksilver DFI oil
When I bought the new boat 2 months ago, this was the recommended oil for my 125HP Mercury Optimax and the boat dealer sold me 2 x 4L containers for $56 each. Had the first service last week at the local Mercury dealer and I bought a 10L container for $112 so there's a small saving there. Just decant from the 10L into the 4L container, which I always carry in the boat, as well as making it easier to top up the oil reservoir in the outboard.
I agree with Steve231's comments.
