NOR v SOR Presentation BBQ & Swanfish mini comp 25/8/07 - Saturday

OK Guys and Gals, we have a date set on 25th August (provided its not raining cats & dogs). Venue to be Burswood foreshore as mentioned by Jangles, Hoju and Rickets among others as being a suitable spot to fish from shore and gather for a few refreshments.

The presentation will involve the awarding of the champion angler for the entire event plus a few awards that were missed at the NOR comp. We have some prize money left over so will use most of that to supplement refreshments if we can. Depending on how many are likely to turn up will dictate if we put on  snaggs or liquid refreshments or both etc.

In order to have some prizes for the Swan Fish mini comp it would be appreciated if those wishing to enter the comp donate $10 each to the prize pool as was the case with the NOR and SOR legs. All donations will be returned in prizes, unfortunately it will not be as heavily subsidised by sponsors as the Blue Water events, never the less we still have some great prizes on offer.

If you don;t want to fish the comp please still come on down and catch up with everyone on the day, make some new friends and maybe score some new fishing buddies.

I will post another thread where you can nominate to enter the comp and another to nominate to just come to the bbq. Please place your names there so we can get an idea of how many are going to turn up.

Given that its a shore based comp only, it will need to be conducted within eyesight of the bbq area, where we will have a few fishwrecked crew running around with scales trying to weigh the fish caught, so as to allow those wishing to practice C&R to do so and still possibly win a prize. I suggest we start the comp at 6-30am (sunrise) and finish it at 11-00am with presentations by 12-00 midday and everyone then available for the bbq at 12-30pm.

Details of prize categories will be posted in the next few days, when Tim and I have worked out what the hell we are going to do.

Resort Drive

Tue, 2007-08-21 10:11

i'm pretty sure i know the spot where the comp is meant to be, but Andy and co should probably confirm this.

If you go into Burswood the road is Resort drive (i'm pretty sure) to the left of the casino complex if looking at Burswood from Gt Eastern Hwy, the spot proposed to fish from is where the playground and BBQs are before getting to the Heli Pad and Waterski clubhouse. Theres a nice long area of reedy bank there which has held fish over the last month just around the playground

Tue, 2007-08-21 10:17

I think we will aim to measure the fish on a fisheries sticker measure and take a photo for the wiegh in. Work on the biggest fish by length rather than wieght unless you want to wiegh it as well. Then at the end we will judge the biggest of fish and species etc for the remainding prices. Have to talk to andy and tim more about this and post it up. There will a limit of where you can fish as well as i has to be within eye sight of the bbq area. Myself and andy werent to sure where the spot was so thats why i asked. Cheers for the info. Chris Post to follow with more details later in the week.

just still curious too... if it can be elaborated asap...

what will the objective of the minicomp be? ie, what are going to be the goals of the event...

most number of fish?
Biggest fish?
Most species of fish?
largest combined length of fish?
largest combined weight?

Also, regarding the camera weighing... the only camera I have, isnt too crash hot, its in my phone and I dont think it dates the photo? Plus, is there another way we can do this too? Like can we make it that other competitors must witness the fish too? Not that I think it would happen because we're all honest but its not hard to catch a fish tomorow, photo it, and change the date to suit sat.

Atleast if you photo measure with a fisheries sticker and have a witness to verify, (witness must be another competitor) its better?

Also, a witness then verifies that the fish was "taken" from the designated fishing zone... especially if theres no officials there to check at the time of catch... whos to say someone dont stop by heirsson island, arrive late, fish the other end of the stretch to most others and claim they caught it within the fish zone? Once again, not that we're dishonest but if a proper neutral weigh in person cant be there, then we should prolly make the self judging as fail safe as possible?

In all fareness as long as your honest, but we do need some sort of proof what was caught. Im sure there will be someone close with a camera as its only a small area. Andy mac will go through the prizes and post up a list of them soon. Also his outlook on the comp.

Honesty

Thu, 2007-08-23 09:32

Spess is right with what he says about being honest. As with all comps some form of honesty is allways involved from those involved.
Theres no Sheep Stations involved here so I suppose it all comes down to how much value people put on the site and people on it vs a small prize.

The fishing area is not that large that you could get someone else there to take your photo if you wanted. Would also help you get some better quality photos.

With the small number of people entering the prizes still havent been finalized yet but I would imagine it would be for things like Biggest Bream - Best Photo - Strange/Other Catch. All entry donations will be going into the prize pool.

Hi guys,
do you mind if I brought down a rod or 2 and some poppers?

Was going to practice casting somewhere in the river, thought I might stop by and say G'day to everyone. I'll stay well away from the breamers so as not to interrupt.

is it also ok to bring a kilo or two of mackie and some slabs of spanglie?

should be a bit for everyone, just that I gotta run off at 10.30; just wondering if the bbq would be fired up before that...
