NMEA2000 Info

Hi,
Have just got a new boat with a Honda 40hp outboard and I have a new HDS7. Both are NMEA 2000 compatible. The HDS has a simple cable in for the NMEA2k but the outboard looks a bit more difficult.
I would like to hook it up to see engine details on the screen and was wondering if anyone had any advice. Questions I have are:
- do I need to install sensors on the motor
- if so where can I get them
- what info can be pulled from the motor
- likewise, where can I get the cables to go to the HDS
- is it worth the hassle???
Any advice would be appreciated. The manual on the motor says "see your dealer". I am not very cluey with the wiring etc but have a mate who loves this kind of stuff.
Cheers

From what I understand is
From what I understand is you will need to by a specific connector to attached to the motor, not sure where it connects though. You will also need to buy a backbone setup as well.
So it will cost a little bit but I think it's worth while having the info, even with my car I drive by the gauges as well as the sounds and feel and has saved me numerous times particularly when four wheel driving. A lot of the new boats already have the guages so I would bother then but you obviously don't so I think it is worth while.
Unfortunately my motor is too old to have that capability but I am eventually going to buy the system so I can connect my hds sounder with my gps and also have the fuel flow meter.
I was talking to Davidbland50 the other day and he said he bought his gear fromsingapore through eBay and not had a problem with it. Maybe you could get in touch with him by pm on here and find out who he bought it off.
Cheers
