Nice to meet you
Hey guys, Im a newbie to Fishwrecked and would like to quickly introduce myself.
Names Kev, been living in WA for about 4 months now.
I love this place and the fishing is awesome! I usually fish shore based, but have always dreamed of getting my own boat.
My wife made my dreams come true this week and bought me my very own boat. Early Christmas pressie. Its nothing like the boats I've seen on here, but its a boat hey and all we could afford for now.
She needs lots of TLC (boat) but I'm sure I'll get there eventually. Got her today! I know nothing about boats, but Im eager to learn. Going to book for RST next week so I can take her out. I bet It's a steep learning curve!
As I'm new to this place, I don't know anyone, so it will be nice to meet some of you on the water when I eventually get out. Any advice appreciated.

Welcome Kev
my boat is a bucket of - been trying to get it seaworthy for 6 months - nearly done but i have been dragged away to build a bathroom in the shed for the sons wedding - but any boat is better than none. I hope you enjoy the site - apart from the ones you will soon recognise they are a clean living nice bunch of people.

hey kev well done on the new
hey kev
well done on the new boat....geez i wish my missus would buy me a new boat!!!!
Plenty of things to learn, good place to start is your RST.
Few things to check... Safety gear, Nav lights (if have them), engine..when was the last service, might be an idea to service it first up
Where abouts around perth are you?
There are many good boat ramps both ocean access and river access, but there are also some very terrible ones aswell.

Cheers Bodie! Yeah, its
Cheers Bodie! Yeah, its seems all kitted out with the sagety gear, nav lights, GPS/ sounder. Got it from a dealer who didn't service it, but said it was alright for now after a quick check and recommended I bring it in Jan for a service.
I stay in Beaconsfield so any tips where its easy to launch will be appreciated.
Boats an old Chivers Pursuit, tidy for its age but needs work.

Welcome Kev, hope the boat
Welcome Kev, hope the boat does the trick for you. The boat doesnt catch any fish it just puts you in the area, the fish dont care if you are fishing from a $1000 boat ro a $100,000 boat.
Cheers Steve

apart from the other info I would recommend watching and learning the weather patterns over here, especially the wind......
ask plenty of questions as we are all in the same boat (excuse the pun).....

Cheers Damo, I was thinking
Cheers Damo, I was thinking about that. Almost every day starts out calm and then by midday/ arvo the wind picks up to a dull roar! Wont be fun getting back in when its blowing hard. Boats 16' with a 70hp.

weather
I am still learning as I am new and have a small boat.
very generally and i state generally in summer easterly in morning turns to s/swester in arvo. general plan of attack head out with wind and return with wind.
winter you get calm after a low passes through and good for stirring the bottom up for snapper/dhueis
spring wait and watch and hope....
autumn best time of year with with days of calm...
I live in Bunbury (south of perth 170km) so local perspective.
best advise is to gain comfidence of how boat handles diff weather, but no fish is worh dying for....

Welcome aboard
Welcome aboard Kev,you noted earlier on that you have a bit of a weak stomach. The way to fix that is to eat pineapple, preferably the chunky one,it works better.
Try it and let us know how you get on

Welcome to the site Kev
The boys are spot on with the river trips as the first place to start until you get comfortable with the boat and what it can handle. Like all of us boaties you will soon change your home page to Seabreeze.com, BOM, Ocean outlook or some other weather channel, then proceed to cry every day it shows light winds and you're booked to do a family function or have to work, then cry again when the weather is howling and you have your only free day off for months.
Cheers
