new to boating needs help

Hi guys i just got my first boat quintrex ali 4.7m powered by 2X20hp mariner motors (manual start)

got some questions i tried to ask in another forum but they just got bored so no body answeres me anymore :) but i think you guys will help me out

1- i need a battery to opreate fishfinder+GPS+navi lights+ small light (the engines are manual start) i don't know what kind of batteries should i go for some guys recommend regular battery as the load is low and other say deep-cycle which one would you prefer and what ampier?

2- i tow the boat with my toyota camry 2002 V4 and  i lunched the boat from Mt Pleasant, Deepwater Point Boat Ramp and it was very easy i've checked hillaryas and it seems very easy too but i didn't try it yet, i don't know if it is possible from safety bay as i didn't check it out yet, which ramp would you guys suggest if i wanted to go to the ocean sometimes and which one would be better fishing spots?

3- i wanna buy a fishfinder(sounder) either second hand or new, which one would you suggest? (budget $100-$200)

thats all and i know i'll come up with some other questions soon :) sorry if i asked so many stupid questions but hey i'm new :) have no where else to ask

cheers,,,

Firstly no question is a stupid question on here if anyone can help they will .

1/ i would go for a marine battery and recomend a auto electritian to wire it up for you and also make sure it is kept charged.

2/ we fish mainly out of Rockingham point peron it has great boat ramps hose down area and fish cleaning area (own hose) not to far to go to the 5 fathom bank which is about as far as i would go in your size boat but you also have the sound which you can still catch good fish like KGs, snapper(when allowed) etc.

3/ this one i can not help you with in the budget maybe someone else can.

Good luck mate and hope to see you on here moe often

Thats good advice.

As for a fish finder check the price on the garmins.  I had one in my old boat and it only cost me around the 200 mark.  I think it was a garmin 120or 140?  It was good enough tofind the bottom and workout what was down there.  For a bit more money you could get a lot more sounder.

I used to have the aux charge cable on my old tinnie running it off my 30 merc manual start. I just used an old sealed battery out of my dads Harley and it used to run my navman, lights and I had 2 cigarette sockets running 1million candle powered hanheld spot lights for prawing and stuff like that. We fitted the charge cable ourself as it was very straight foward but I would check if you can do it with the mariner's. Any local boat shop should be able to help you out.

As for the sounder I may be able to help you out as I have a black and white garmin sounder that I recently replaced with a Furuno 585. My mate said he might want it so I will check with him tomorrow but if he doesn't want it I will sent you a PM

Mounting

Thu, 2008-11-27 06:48

Try to mount battery wher does not get bounced around a lot (toward the back if poss) also secure to if you can. Sounders power and pixels get as much and as many as you can for your budget (don't woory about colour unless you can afford it.

Nice rig mate have fun

I haven't ever seen one or heard any bad reports but I just had a look on the internet at the specs and it seems like a fairly good unit for the price. How deep are you likely to be fishing. It would be fine around the 5 fathom bank but as you get deeper I think it would start to struggle with anything over 30m of water. Be good for around the 5 and cockburn sound
