Kackles, from my experience in being a "clubby"

Thu, 2009-11-26 12:31

They normally maintain them very well, but they also give them a fair flogging and it is not uncommon for the motors to spend a fair bit of time under the water.
But my experience is from another State and another time.

I would be really careful and have it looked over

just to play safe. The motors I had experience with were regularly serviced, but we used to do a lot of wave riding with them - and as Till said, that quite often meant jamming the leg into the sand or - when we were being stupid - rocks.

one thing you can guarantee

Thu, 2009-11-26 17:23

one thing you can guarantee is that it has been run at least once a week for 6 months of the year and maybe more depending on which club as some use irb's all winter.  It has probably used for racing irb's and will have been revved prety hard but on the most looked after and washed after use.  the legs are left loose so if they hit the sand they just kick up.  sounds like a pretty good price but for the motor anyway.  sometimes motors that are unused would be in a much worse state.  it is possible it has been rolled over and drowned but they are usually recoverd ok.

good luck

My mate bought the exact

Thu, 2009-11-26 19:52

My mate bought the exact motor 1yr ago and has not had a problem. He sold it 3 weeks ago to a work colleague who has alot of experience as a boat builder and he is happy with the motor which he paid 1200 for. But... each motor  is different. Remember the old holden black motor???

BAD

Thu, 2009-12-24 12:39

Im part of a surf club and when i first saw how they treated them i almost cried, they revved them non stop but they operated by 13 + year old kids who have no experience in engine care

my advice dont buy one from a surf club just get a NEW one, trust me

(eveyone in a surf club is a rev head)
