Got one quota from one pot today off james Services. All good size whites in about 12 mtrs

Buggered if I know why we can bag out one day & get nothing the next day
I have also left crays in the pot & found them gone the next day.
Maybe they escape when the pot is dropping through the water .
Any way youre doing better than me - Boat in for major surgery as you know
Don't you catch them all before I get back out there

Crays can come and go at their leasure
Cray pots are just that not traps unfortunately and they can get out just as easy as they can enter. I believe ECU marine studies section has a bit of video showing this.

Crays getting out of pots
Ive heard a few people say that crays can easily get out of pots but im not so sure.
When i left school (bloody long time ago) I went up to Horrocks with a Mate.
We made a cray pot out of a couple of milk crates & dropped it in holes in the reef platform
No boat, just walked off the beach. If youve been to Horrocks you know what I mean.
We could see the crays in the pot before we pulled it.
We didnt really know what we were doing & initially didnt have a proper neck on the pot.
& when we pulled on the rope, the crays shot out of the opening in a second.
So we realised our folly & fashioned a funnel neck.
Again we could see the crays in the pot but they stayed in there when we pulled the pot
So we caught them & ate them
Im sure they can get out if they really want to but i not so sure thay can get out as easily as they get in .
