i know a couple of people that have mako craft boats, one is a car topper and the other is the side consol jobbie. Both are really well made boats and pretty stable, especially the car topper (surprising for such a small boat). They come from a good line of family boat makers mate. I think it would be pretty safe to say you would be happy with the purchase
I've did some research on different heavy duty tinnies (allycraft tank, bluefin viking and makocraft truck) and i hear that there ride is wet and a bit rough and need more hp then a regular tinnie but there main feature is customizing it to you specs.
I had a good look at them as well when i was looking for a new rig, I wanted a open boat that would allow me to get out widish on the good days. I narrowed it down to the makocraft truck and the allycraft tank, to me i thought the "tank" was a better built boat. Then i started looking at some second hand boats and found that the trailcraft profish was about in the same price bracket, i ended up getting the profish 465. If your happy getting away from the tiller steer and dont mind the side console these are something to look at. There was one in the Quokka last week with a 60hp Yamaha on it for $23 000, might pay just to have a look at and see if it suits your needs.
thank for the input guys. i know their is compromises in any boat but i do like the idea of the tiller steer as it is a little less back breaking sitting at the back of the boat and the ability to remove the seats and put them up the front when at anchor and fishing of the back appeals to me . and all that deck space is what really sells it. the bluefin viking looks good too....what to do?

mate of mine at darwin has a mako truck
got it as a shell and has had it fully pimped with storage boxes, live bait tanks etc etc etc.
he seems happy with it for what he uses it for.
