Lowrance help ie ethernet

Hi Guys

I have recently purchased a HDS5m and HDS5x  i have the ehternet cable connected and can view both sonar and gps on both units so I know my cable works.

When I try and add a waypoint on the sonar it wont let me and says "position not valid at this location"

I can t seem to find any info on this anywhere

any help appreciated

Rig

NMEA

Rig you may have to look at the NMEA sentences that are being ouputted and recieved and see if the correct ones are turned to recieve and send the data from the units.  Your manual should have it in.

From what I can see the two types of NMEA settings are different from the ethernet

with my setup it was found

with my setup it was found that the gps is not shared over the lowrance ethernet.  It needed to be nema connected as well as the lowrance ethernet to get that to work.

a guy on another forum said you can get the NMEA kit for $69.  On all the stuff I have looked at the lowrance website says it can happen but my units after hours and hours of toying wont do it.  I might give that guy a call tomorrow and see what he has to say.

from what I have seen

from what I have seen anything nema needs the nema network and gps data seems to be one of them.  The lowrance ethernet will transmit the sonar data and I think gps points.  I have a 7 and a 10m connected with the external gps until I connected the nema to the 7 I could not get the gps data from either the external or 10m but because the 7 has an inbuilt gps it couls send the gps details.  I just wanted to ensure both unit were using the same co-ords.

problem solved

Ok took it down to all boat business on saturday and after a bit of playing around and a call to Navico they realised there are a couple of wires that the installation guide doesnt point out that need to be connected between the 2 units as well as the ethernet cable

the connections are

green to blue

blue to green

yellow to orange

orange to yellow

shield to shield

works a treat now

Ahh so in your case they have

Ahh so in your case they have setup the nema 0183 network instead of the nema 2000 either either.  If you end up needing any other nema 2k stuff like ext antenna engine connections etc you will need to go nema 2k but if it works.  My nema 0183 is providing the details to my Navan vhf/uhf radio.
