lowrance chartplotter problem, help!
Submitted by Adonis on Mon, 2009-09-14 11:16
Hey guys,
Rocked up to woodies on sunday to chase some pinkies before the squid comp and as i turn on my chartplotter it comes up with a message like this:
Made me realise how much i really do rely on it for navigation. Anyway i have checked all the wires and they are all fine which leads me to thinking it maybe the actual unit or gps reciever that is cactus? Has anyone ever had this problem before? I went out about a week previously and it worked fine. Since then i have done nothing different except i didn't put the cover on the boat?
Any ideas???
Cheers,
Pete

yes mate the gps modules can
yes mate the gps modules can just shit themselves for no reason, also check to make sure there are no cracks in your plugs etc or a wire has been kinked.
other than that try and borrow a module from someone else and plug that in, that way it will tell you if its the module or something else

Yes only last week
You can see my post asking if anyone had an antenna to suit. From what I had been told it is more than likely the antenna that is shot. Waiting for it to arrive via mail. The price of a new antenna is just under half the price of a new lowrance plotter however they are avalible via ebay USA cheaper.
PM me your number if you wish i give you a call on options.

Can't see the picture but
Can't see the picture but does it come up with the GPS module not responding message?
If so get a sd card and download the software upgrade (link below) onto it and put it in the slot on the gps and it will upload the update automatically and problem solvered.

mullows, do you know if that download is suitable for all lowrance chartplotters? I am running a globalmap 3300c and yep it is showing a message " GPS module not responding"

Sorry mate. Yeah you will need the update for that plotter but I still reckon it should fix it. Here is the update for yours.

lowrance "puck"
The gps module called the puck in US, can be the source of the problem, but I fixed mine with the same message by undoing the T connectors, spraying them with CRC, drying them out with a cotton bud, reconnecting and no problems since. That was 6 months ago. A friend had the same problem but had to buy a new module. Hope it helps, it is a very common problem.
