last pinky bash before bans

Headed out this morning thinking id only get a squid in due to swell but could not resist the urge to have a look at conditions first.
Got to the GI/Carnac passage just before light so waited to be sure it was ok...and it was fine so out we headed.
Went to the usual haunts behind garden, sounder showing plenty but nothing on the chew so came back to north end of GI.
Managed to catch about a dozen good pinkies between the 3 of us, keeping our 6 to get through the next cpl months.
One of the fish was bitten in half on the way up and as the head came over the side a white launched out of the water to gunnel height, hit the side of the boat and bounced away. The 2 fellas on that side of the boat had brown shorts after that one!
Its a shame the gopro was set up on the other side, the footage would have been right down its gob otherwise.
All in all a great morning out

How to catch a great white

Sun, 2016-10-16 20:44

Use a south Australian rig, what's that you ask.

Put a diver in a light aluminium cage of the back of a boat.

Burly up big time for a reasonable period of time.

When GW is sighted annoy the hell out of it by casting a tuna head near it and just when the shark makes a bite at the head take it away from him.

Do this a number of times until the shark shows that it is quite annoyed at this dollar earning behaviour.

Then drag the head over to the cage that contains the paying punter (diver) the shark will in most cases focus on the captive diver and attempt to have the diver for a meal instead of the tuna head.

When the GW gets really upset it will attempt to break into the cage, which it succeeded in doing just recently (as shown on ch7 news) diver escapes from the cage by pure luck shortly followed by GW.

Gw migrates around to WA coast sees diver with no cage and says to its self this looks like the meal that got away from me before I swam around to WA. I'll get this one.

And that is how the SA rig works.
