Last minute charter trip
Submitted by still trying on Mon, 2020-10-05 16:06
Last night when I was starting to think about going to bed I flicked through my phone looking at this site and then Facebook I noticed a last minute cancellation on jazz and they were looking to fill it I thought I'd I'm lucky enough for it to be still available I will go 5 mins later I'm setting an alarm for 3:30 in the morning. The first hour or 2 were very slow fishing I think we saw 1 undersized snapper, well that changed very quickly I think there were about 8 people hooked up at once and then again when we dropped back down easily the craziest session I have seen.

Yeah they were all good size off the first school he found. I looked at the wind and saw that it picked up after dropping off yesterday.

Some great sized pinks there
But that sort of kill shot pic now reminds me why sometimes I go months without getting a good sized pinkie. Yes I know they are a charter and they are not breaking any laws, but I find it a little frustrating they hammer pinkie schools so hard at times. Yes they have paying customers, yes those customers may not get out often so they want to try and at least get a feed (especially to try and justify their charter cost) however it's a big ocean out there, and it would be good to see them fish for other species other than demersals at times.

For sure
It hurts when we have to put up with shitty ban boundaries (outside of sound) just for jazz charters to be smashing it day in day out with 20 blokes on board. At least shikari doesnt have shitloads of people on board and his take would be insignificant compared to jazz. Fisheries should limit the amount of people allowed on big charters or limit the catch further if you have over a certain amount of people on board. Might start writing a letter to the appropiate minister. Ill compile all of jazz kill pics on the net and ask the minister if he thinks jazz is overfishing.

You'll probably find that
You'll probably find that letters and pics to ministers might put all of us fishos in the same basket and place more restrictions on all of us. These guys have been under pressure for years now i dont like it anymore than the next bloke but his putting punters onto fish and as a charter thats his job. Personally i like a quiet anchor and burley session solo.

I was using baits and the charters rod and reel all part of the deal I think it's nice to not take any gear my stuff probably isn't even as good as his. On the boat though that day it was almost half half with people using there own gear and they had plackies. Last time I went on jazz I used there gear and soft plastics and caught nothing so I can vouch that they don't bag out every day. Sorry guys I didn't think before putting up the days catch shot that may not look the best, looks good in my phones album there were some big pinks nice fat ones.

It's ok mate I've had the same from the flog who skippers Indian Chief out of Gnaraloo, twice I've had him drop on my drift. I did a few doughnuts around hime onec to let him know he's a flog for doing it. He'd steamed in from out wide and sat about 40m away on our drift line.
