Lancelin jetty report 18. Oct.
After being frustrated for few months now not catching anything edible around metro area, me and my mates decided to head up to Lancelin for some good fish. It was my first fishing trip up there. (I am kind of new to fishing and to this forum. Thanks to all members sharing their knowledge here.) On the way we stoped at Ledge Point. Conditions were not bad, but a lot of weed around, so after half an hour we packed up. Arrived at Lancelin jetty around 3pm. Line in the water and almost instant hook up and we landed firs fish. Trumpeter, so still nothing for feed. They were like Blowies, taking anything. Quite annoying really. The ground around the jetty is quite weedy, so we were getting snagged every now and then and eventually ran out of sinkers. As a last attempt I tried one trumpeter on the gang and after around 15 minutes soaking him in the water, the reel spined quickly for about a second. Something busted me off as I had the gang just on a mono line not on a wire trace. It musted been hell of a fish to take whole trumpeter.
Nobody seemed to catch anything decent few herrings now and then. Fisheries guys came to say hello as well. Not a bad looking officer. :)
So we came home empty handed, lost some gear, but at least little bit of action on the rod after long time.

Was close to 20cm, I would
Was close to 20cm, I would say. Pity I didn’t have bit of wire on the gang. Could have been interesting fight I recon.

Lancelin Jetty
That place is notorious for very large Rays. Ask me.. I've done heaps of rigs and line on them LOL.
It's a great place to fish on a balmy night. Burley up and the Herring will go nuts. The odd Tailor come through also. There are some really nice Whiting to be had from the beaches there and if you use lures on the sand bar you will come across some nice Flathead as well. It's like anywhere really, if there is weed around it becomes a bit of a task. At least there is a couple of pubs close by mate, and plenty of places to bunk up if you feel like staying over.

I want to try ray
I want to try ray “scallops” or similar. It’s probably not too popular, but some people seem to like them. So I am definitely coming back may be for overnight and may be make my way up to Wedge. One of the locals said that herrings turn up at 8pm in millions, but it wasn’t the case yesterday. We landed just one around 6ish.

Rays
Mate! The rays that hang around the jetty are used as tug boats to get the ships through the heads LOL. Sit and have a beer on the jetty on a calm day and watch them swim past.
If you want edible (or landable) Rays, just fish north of Two Rocks where I do. I guarantee every time I set up for a Mulloway I get a Ray.

LOL so they are recovery
LOL so they are recovery vehicle winch type of thing, are they? :) Do you fish off the beach or north wall of the marina? I would have a crack. I was hoping for some edible/landable ray at North mole, but it seems that there are no fish at all last few months or so.
