Importing a boat from the US

 Hi Guys,

I recently, late last year, imported a boat and trailer from Florida. I am thrilled with my boat and have been using it as much as I possibly can. I managed to get into a rig that I would never have been able to afford in the Australian market.

If anyone wants any info on what I did or anything, let me know and if I can help I will be more than happy to if I can

Hi mate
am sure you know this but just thought i would chip in just incase! - make sure you monitor the exchange rate (thats the line of work i am in) ie you may be receiving a rate of (lets pick a number) 3% on your investment but if the AUD/THB cross rate increases by more than 3% then you will actually carry a negative return when you convert the funds back to AUD....
happy to have a chat (pm me if you want more info)

cheers

Got mine in at 1.05 exchange

Got mine in at 1.05 exchange rate 6 months ago. Now at 91 cents, it is much more expensive and not sure it makes as much economic sense....

exchange

I tend to agree, but what you get for your dollar is well worth it. By comparison, a Haines  of similar vintage and size would have been well out of budget range. Australia seems to hold value on second hand boats and are so over priced for both new and used the US market is well worth the effort. The guy at Florida's Finest Cars, whhere I bought my boat from, was a dream to deal with, left the Australian dealers for dead. they are a nightmare to talk to and deal with.

Anyway, just another option.

Yep,

your right but anyone thinking of doing it now should sit down and do the sums condering the current exchange rate.

The savings that would have been made by you/Vinesh/john and others just wouldn't be made now, spewing

I think local boat dealers should practise the exercise so they can get a feel for how easy American Salesmen are to work with.
Such a differently structured industry over there.
I don't like complementing the yanks on much but in this department they make us look like the arrogant pricks.

Arrogance

All the dealers I have spoken with in Perth and Bunbury with the exception of Carlo at Bluewater in Bnbury, are atrocious. They act like they are doing me the favour by overcharging me. They then bitch and moan about people like me that buy online. I prefer to shop local but boat dealers drive me away.

They are an awesome boat.
