High Pressure Water Sprayers?
Submitted by Dreamweaver on Fri, 2008-08-29 10:30
Gang,
Quite some time ago, I bought one of these units - it was a Bosch Aquatak 115 - not a bottom of the range by any means. It was excellent for cleaning the boat - getting into crevices and for cleaning the non slip deck. We didn't use it that often, but it eventually died - I believe the coil burnt out.
I was told by various parties that, unless you buy a top of the range unit, the coils are pretty rubbish and prone to failure.
I'd be interested in your thoughts and recomendations on a decent low cost unit (if such a thing exists!)?

The major cause of failure
The major cause of failure in all the non-industrial units(cheapies) is that the coil burns out from the start stop on the trigger - in the minute chinese print on the bottom of the instructions it tells you not to start and stop the unit more than a few times per use and not run for more than a specific time - a few minutes - so unless you buy a more expensive unit - this will happen...
You can bypass the coil quite easily, BUT this means the nozzle is always open, so if you have kids - or are a big kid yourself - dont do it - trash the unit and get another cheapie - the industrial units are too expensive and too heavy...
Decent and low cost???? LOL!
Dollar a minute rule applies - if you paid 1 dollar for it and it worked for 1 minute - you've had your value for money....
At about $300 for the pressure cleaner - do the maths - probarbly worth it??
Cheers mate

Cheers Dave and ???
Yeah exactly what I expected but it's good to get that confirmed.
Is there any difference in 'quality' and 'longevity' between Bosch and Karcher? Or are they just different breeds of pigs?
I can get a 1400W 1450 psi Kircher for only $99.00 whereas it basically costs me $100.00 for each 100 psi added on - should I just get the $99.00 one?

What do you want to do with it - peel your paint off?
Look where it was made - there is a large amount of Korean and Chinese imported junk coming in from over east - I don't support it and would rather buy quality - but sometimes you have no choice because of the cost/budget ratio.
Surprise - the Bosch and the Kircher? (not Kracher??) are both made there I think -check it out... Bosch used to be a very good product developed by Siemens in Germany - but there is adifference in the colour of the casing of the 2 - one is blue and one is blue/grayish?? One is the junk - can't remember which though, but the price tells....
Try to limit the amount of times you start stop the pressure on the handle and it will double the lifespan...
$99 = 99 minutes - 1 1/2 hour of use for you Mate good luck..

The answer to the first one is no LOL.
Basically pressure clean the boat (crevices and non slip) - I haven't found anything as good as a pressure sprayer for cleaning the (sanpaper like) non slip deck. Oh, and since I have it, clean the car (dirt underneath, salt flush after launch etc).
BTW, yes it's KARCHER.
As you say, Bosch used to have a great name (german quality etc).
99 minutes LOL!

ive had a karcher for a couple of years .and yes when i use it i try to keep the trigger on
one thing thiugh if your useing detergents via the little ventroury tube make sure when youve finished to pass straight water through the little tibe as the detergents tend to gel up blocking the flow if left to sit till you next use the machine.
took me ages to unblock

Thanks Brad and Mitch
Appreciated guys! Seems I should have bought a Karcher rather than a 'Botched'
If either of you can recall how much you paid for your units, that will be a guide to which model you bought. PM me if you wish!

Agree with the first part, confused on the second - you and me as MALES will assume it still would have been working otherwise

Ahhhh!! So True Brad!
Mate, that is sooooo bloody true.
Dear wife does it - 'Honey, I think I'll cook us a lovelly dinner tonight and why don't we splurge on a few good bottles of wine - ay hunny bun - (said quickly and quietly--> - oh, by the way, the pressure sprayer is stuffed'
I do it - Yelled VERY loudly "What! You've just* bought the bloody thing! You're NOT getting another one, so don't even ask!"
(* apparently, in these situations, wives are allowed to call anything purchased in the last 10 years as 'just bought')

A gentle reminder on how to
A gentle reminder on how to understand how things work.
X
(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of
nothing.)
(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' ... That will bring on a 'whatever').
(8) Whatever: Is a women's way of saying F*cK YOU!
(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.
* Send this to the men you know, to warn them about arguments they can avoid if they remember the terminology.
* Send this to all the women you know to give them a good laugh, cause they know it's true.

Colin, if you can get a two
Colin, if you can get a two barreled lance (one with your turbo head or fan jet the toher basically open to act as an over flow, so that when your not using full pressure you can open both which will give you very little pressure allowing you to put it down with out it taking of ) that way you can tape or strap the trigger open safely and no more start stop for the machine.
Mitch with the turbo heads either squirt some oil down the head when you've finished or if the head comes of drop in a jar of inox or oil, it stops the little bits of rust forming which stops the heads from spinning.
