Gps cable

Broke the plastic base that the GPS antenna screws into. Have ordered a new stainless steel one but the question i have is can you cut and reconnect the wire between the antenna and screen or is it  fibre cable.

The antenna is on top of targa bar and cable runs down middle of bar under dash into unit . Trying to get away with not having to re-run all cabling from antenna to unit.

All comments appreciated.

I had a similar prob CB and found that my cable was a fine multicore. I dont know what your unit runs but cut it and find out; sounds like you have nothing to lose.

I ended up giving it to a tech to fix.

just tie some heavy line to the plug end and pull it all up the pipe .. then its super easy to slide it back down again. the cable is usually just a 6 core wire but why cut it and add interferance ??

Mate dont cut any electronic equipment leads , some are a balanced resistance or are made up of very fine copper strands which are near impossible to solder,  also the cable may be screened,  If the plastic mount does simply sldie off , you can cut the plastic fitting into two halves and replace with the stainless , otherwise as feral tie fishing line on as a re draw line
