Friday's Koks island report
Took a run over to the islands on Friday in my old mate Nev's new second hand 26ft shaft drive boat.Weather was looking suspect when we got away with SW winds around 10-15knots but these soon dropped off to next to nothing.
Stopped at the "muck hole"for a fish on the way and the only fish biting were undersized norwest snapper so it was on towards Koks.
Once there and anchored it was over the side for me to cut a bit of rope off the prop shaft.A waiting game with the odd fish showing on the sounder and nothing biting. After about half an hour up came the first pinky to Nev,one to go with his first spangly at the muck hole, not a big fish but still a keeper.Next thing and I was hooked into the first of 5 sharks to be hooked. It took about 20 minutes to get a look at and that was all it and bang he was gone.Next it was Nev's turn, hooking one about 5-6 foot right on the tip of his tail,at least we got a pic or two of his one before it too said goodbye.
Over all a quiet trip, weather was spot on but the fish didn't play the game.Total of 5 pinkies for 4 anglers,5 sharks hooked,2 sighted and all unintentionally released plus a heap of released undersized spanglies at the muck hole. Now that we have worked the sounder operation plus the gps things may improve--we hope!!!As far as the boat goes, its a nice change to cruise over in relative comfort at 10-11 knots instead of flying over at 20+ and getting the s$%^ shaken out of you.

Bondwood
She's 26 foot and built by Marko Sambrailo in 93.Got a 140hp volvo shaft drive, bondwood and I think by the shape to a Hartley design, but don't quote me on it.
Nice and comfortable and big enough to spend a couple of days at the islands if need be.

Good to see she's being used now
John, didnt see it move the whole 6 months we stayed over at Pely Point, until it got sold... Used to love the old Marko boats during the cray fishing days. By far the best boats to work on..

Price
Nev got it for a good price. He came for a trip to the islands in my boat and got on to a couple of good fish and that was the bit that got the ball rolling.Took him three days to get over the trip and he was determined to get back over there without getting the daylights shaken out of him[he's 81]so he made an offer on it.It had been on notice boards round town for a couple of months.Got me to have a good look at it and take it for a run,I couldn't fault it and had a surveyor survey it for insurance purposes who only picked two very minor bits that could be fixed in no time.So he bought it and he's been busting his bum waiting untill Friday to take her out.
All thats been added is a VHF radio and a strip of fibreglass on a sheet join on the fore deck.It has a garmin gps and a furuno 611 colour sounder[took a bit of nutting out but gives a good picture now]
Moved her out of the channel and set up a mooring in the main boat harbour.
Now she's got someone to fuss over her she'll be right back to her former glory.

Good to see! Gee it didnt take much to get her up and running... Saw her on the Jinker at Bruces one day, they painted her bum and back in the drink late that afternoon and then she was sold I think. Hopefully will get back up there next year to see her out Koks way!!
