first dhu dedicated yak outing

After whispers of some shallow water dhus hanging around i decided to give it a crack out from a northern marina. Arrived at 6 along with the boating fraturnity of wa and got to rigging the yak along with a mate. We skipped the que and launched our yaks and were on the water by 6:44 to be exact. Got out of the marina and conditions were just unbelievable so out goes a troll lure while jules droped a dead bait troll, with in minutes his reel was buzzing with exitement but after a bundle of errors the fish was dropped and we kept heading for dhu country. When we got to a likely looking area i thought rather than dropping a placcie il drop a snelled squid as a tester to see if and pickers we re about, as the sounder wasn't saying much. The squid hit the bottom, well at least i thought its was the bottom then it started to move slowly, then with a bunp my squid was returned back to me in mint condition. My mind was saying dhu my heart was saying ray may arms were already dropping the bait back down and as the megabass 7mh racing conditions oz rod loaded up my smile began to grow and the 20lb started singing of the 3012h daiwa exist i yelled out to jules im in on the second drop! After a 10minute battle in on 12m i peeked over the side to see that sexy silver flash broken up by the black stripe and all hell broke loose the boat 400m away woulda heard me hootin and hollerin. After seeing and probably hearing me he dove back down for another 5minute tussle until he admitted defeat and with the adrenalin pumpin i heaved him over the side for a hug and a kiss.... i high fived jules to.haha it went 91cm and 13kg best yak capture to date.

Cheers lads, yeah gilly those yaks are the ducks nuts, you can spend hours on them stand up and stretch then spend hours longer on them, the seat has bulk different hight, positions and lumber supports. The shot could have been better i didnt realise i opend its gill plate soo much, but im Stoked none the less. The other bloke got a few black arse and a nice 12ishkg sambo too, the sambo dragged him 700m and took an hour to land on 2to4kg gear.haha

Mon, 2015-06-01 12:20

What a great catch from a yak, I bet that moved the yak around a bit if you got it in shallow water. Well done put it in for POTM.

Mon, 2015-06-01 19:47

Yeah the cray fishos had some testers running out im guessing thats what they were beeing over desert and running out in a straight line, after bringing aboard and despatch and high fives and photos i had drifted maybe 300m towards them.
