Exmouth trip July
Submitted by dikfeld on Sun, 2011-05-29 19:17
Hey guys,
I'm heading on a road trip to Exmouth on the 2nd of July (Doing a whale shark dive mid week). Thinking of staying a couple of nights somewhere along the way was thinking canarvon. Anyone know anything about canarvon and what the camping facilities are like (and fishing). Also anyone who has stayed in exmouth before any tips on some good places or some good camping sites? Cheers

Mate first thing being if you
Mate first thing being if you can avoid the school holidays you will have a better time!! However your date seems to be the week before so I'm assuming youll be here into them. Get in quick as the Caravan Parks will be booked out and the National Park camping options will also be pretty non existent.
Carnarvon I would avoid and in terms of kilometres and road hours, by the time you get to Carnarvon you might as well just keep driving through to Coral Bay or Exy.
Have a search through the forums as there's plenty of info on Exy, also add a bit more info such as are you self sufficient or need a powered campsite, what fishing you want to do, etc???
Theres caravan parks right in the middle of town here and out of town too, depends if you want to be close to National park and Beaches or whether you want to be close to the town amenities etc.
Personally if you wanted an easy stay for a coupla nights on the way up maybe Kalbarri might be an option open to you!!
Each to his own, maybe you'll like Carnarvan.........

Hey mate thanks for the
Hey mate thanks for the info!
Yeah I think we might just miss the school holidays or might be there for a couple of days when theyr on so hopefully wont be too bad. Going to book everything on Saturday so hopefully should be a few spots in some decent caravan parks left.
I'm going to need a powered caravan site though, just tenting it in a 8 person tent with 4 of us in it. I will have a look through the forums to see what people have said on different camp sites but if you have any information would be much appreciated. In terms of fishing I will only be doing fishing from the shore, I have a boat and would love to take it up but for this trip gonna leave it at home because the other 3 people I'm goign with arent keen on boats... So yeah will all beach fishing! But have some good gear so hopefully can do alright!
I was just thinking of staying one night somewhere along the way so I thought Canarvon might be a good option (so get a night to fish off the jetty) but going by what most people have said I might skip it and do a night in Coral bay before doing the extra hour or so up to exmouth...

Carnarvon
Carnarvon caravan park allows campers with tents etc but bookings are essential at this time of the year as the grey seagulls and back packers are here in force. The jetty ha s been turning up the odd big mulloway, mountains of soapies, yellow fin bream and whiting. Quobba has had cobia and mackies off the rocks with a few spanglies down at the Blowholes .
The water here is a lovely red colour again due to us getting some ground swell stirring up the silt from the floods but will clear in a couple of weeks.

Choccas
Exmouth will be choccas for July so make sure you book your campsite even as much in advance as possible. The Shire do have an overflow facility on the town oval for all the holiday makers who come to town without bookings, so if you get there and the town is full then head to the park.
Its a bit cool at night so pack a 'cardy' with you as well as the trackie daks.
Heaps of crabs running in the Bay of Rest at the moment as well...yum.

If you go into Coral Bay,
If you go into Coral Bay, outside school holidays you should be able to get some accommodation, but ring aherad and check, 2 caravan parks, might want to stay 2-3 days and try and go out on the Mahi Mahi for a day fishing, well worth it!
