Hi guys Has anyone had one of the minn kota outboard motor mounted electric motors. Wondering how one would go on my 150hp yamaha for trolling for barra. Boats a 5.8m chivers centre console. Its a big high sided boat. What model do you think i would need and what batteries etc How long will it run on battery Sorry about so many questions just know nothing about electric motors http://www.minnkota.com.au/about/trolling-motors/engine-mount/engine-mount-freshwater.html

Electric motors..
I had an inflatable 12 foot boat for the youngster, like a cheap tender, and bought a smaller Min Kota, and it worked okay - but it was the black motor - for freshwater, the white motors are for saltwater... I used a 40 Amp/hour(A/h) battery, and the maths on this is easy - divide the current used at the speed you like to go, by the 40 for example, if the motor draws 1 amp at full speed, it will run for 40 hours - find a mate with a multitester to tell you what it draws at different speeds, but have it in a working position in the water... this is just a guideline, but as you are only trolling, it is not a drama if the battery runs flat... I think the bigger motor is the go, as the difference in price does not justify the problem later. Hard to estimate how it will work, as if you have 2 large blokes on board with heaps of kit, it will be heavier, but will just take longer to get going. 5.8m is a fair size boat for trolling....

Yep 5.8 seems big but after fishing the Daly mine doesnt seem that big most guides in the territory are now running 6.5 - 7m boats. Seen one of these outboard motor mounted electrics on a 6m barchruser.
Really interested to see how they go
