Boatshow

In the market for a few bit's and pieces... 50-75 hp 4 stroke outboard; Furuno 585 fish finder, transducer, gps/chart plotter, marine radio (maybe even an entire dinghy, lol)... my question is.... is it worthwhile getting all these at the upcoming Boatshow? Do all the suppliers have bargain deals only available at the show? Or is it all a bit of hype and the prices are normal (perhaps even inflated?)...

Opinions would be appreciated.

cheers,
damo

Lowrance and North star(Navman) r doing a boat show special with map and radio included, good place to bargain with a couple of dealers at the same time but do your home work, they will always extend the specials and bargaining outside the show.

406 Epirb Prices

Tue, 2008-08-12 17:00

The new 406 epirbs have been retailing in the low to mid $400 range...I'd guess the boat show next week is as good a place to try and beat that as any. Just make sure you get one that is for marine use...some of the glossy advertising gives the impression that PLB's (Personal Locator Beacons) will suffice, and they won't.

Worth the wait!

Tue, 2008-08-12 17:22

Yeh Damo the prices are very good at the Boat Shows and the "Extra Special Deals" via the wholesaler/manufacturer are only extended to Exhibitors so they can flex more. I had a good customer today that wanted a really good price on a 585 sounder and I told him up front to buy it at the show despite not being there!

Thats why they won't discount. You HAVE to have one, so they always know they're going to get a sale.

Discounting the new 406 Epirbs. We were selling the new GME at $389 there is $5 profit at that price or the pains and wessex for $479 with $15 profit. Thats with a bulk buy discount. So there not alot of room for discount.

Was told that their is a new furuno sounder releasing soon which is a smaller version of the 1100 so that could be interesting as well .

The Gas shortage was supposed to be one reason for the price increase, they use it to make the acrylic cases.

And because people need them

Free Epirb!

Sun, 2008-08-24 07:35

Anyone going today (last day?) - make sure you call into the sea rescue/fesa stand and complete a 'log on' survey form - there's a free epirb up for grabs! It's a good cause too!

I did as I managed to get in there for a couple of hours Friday morning. I must say, boat wise, it was far better than the one I went to in Freo. Still, not much equiptment on offer - it's still got a long way to go before it matches the Mandurah Boat Show.
